Job Summary We are seeking high-caliber Aircraft Structures Mechanics with 7+ years of commercial airframe experience to perform heavy structural repairs, complex sheet metal modifications, and major airframe overhauls in San Antonio, TX. In this role, you will execute high-precision structural repair schemes, skin splices, frame replacements, and passenger-to-freighter (P2F) modifications on commercial narrowbody and widebody transport aircraft during heavy maintenance (C/D checks). You will serve as a subject matter expert on structural repair schemes and assist in guiding project workflow on the hangar floor.

Core Responsibilities Heavy Structural Repairs & Modifications:

Execute complex structural repairs, heavy skin splices, frame/stringer replacements, floor beam repairs, pressure bulkhead modifications, and major airframe overhauls on commercial transport aircraft.

Precision Fastener Installation:

Master-level installation of solid rivets, high-shear fasteners, Blind rivets, CherryLOCK/CherryMAX, Hi-Loks, and Huck bolts using pneumatic squeezes, rivet guns, and specialized tooling.

Blueprint & Technical Mastery:

Read, interpret, and execute work directly from complex structural blueprints, Structural Repair Manuals (SRM), Engineering Orders (EO), and blueline drawings.

Part Fabrication:

Measure, layout, cut, bend, and form sheet metal and structural components to exact tolerances to fabricate repair doublers, patches, and structural fittings.

Corrosion Remediation & Sealing:

Identify, isolate, and eliminate structural corrosion; properly apply primers, aerodynamic sealants, faying surface sealants, and corrosion inhibitors.

Qualifications & Skills Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

7+ years of hands-on aircraft sheet metal and structural repair experience specifically in a commercial heavy MRO, carrier, or depot environment.

Platform Expertise:

Proven track record working on commercial transport airframes (e.g., Boeing 737, 747, 767, 777, or Airbus

A320, A330

family).

Technical Mastery:

Advanced proficiency with all pneumatic sheet metal tools, rivet guns, bucking bars, drills, countersinks, hole finders, shears, and sheet metal brakes.

Blueprints:

Demonstrated ability to independently execute complex SRM repair schemes and non-routine engineering orders.

Tools:

Must possess a complete personal set of calibrated aviation and sheet metal hand tools matching standard MRO senior inventory requirements.

Compliance:

Must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT/FAA drug screen, background check, and obtain an airport SIDA badge. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to work in confined structural spaces (fuel tanks, belly holds, stabilizer bays) and awkward physical positions (kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching overhead). Comfort working at elevated heights on scaffolding, work stands, tail stands, and aerial lifts using mandatory fall protection harnesses. Ability to routinely lift, push, pull, or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Exposure to typical hangar environments, including rivet gun noise, sealants, primers, and solvents (wearing proper PPE at all times).

$35.00 - $43.00 per hour
