  • We are seeking experienced
  • Sheet Metal Mechanics
  • to support shipbuilding and repair operations in Newport News, VA. This position offers
  • $32/hour
  • plus
  • $140/day per diem.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Install foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture according to engineering drawings and specifications.
+ Perform sheet metal fabrication, including cutting, forming, and assembling metal components. + Read and interpret ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, sketches, weld symbols, material specifications, datum points, and reference lines. + Accurately use fractional and decimal measurements to ensure proper fit-up and fabrication. + Lay out and fabricate piece parts to required dimensions and specifications. + Assemble fabricated components into completed units while maintaining quality standards. + Operate hand and power tools, including drills, grinders, and rivet guns. + Utilize shop equipment such as drill presses and press brakes.

  • . Work is performed both onboard Navy vessels and in fabrication shops. Employees should be comfortable working in an industrial environment with varying weather conditions and physically demanding tasks.

  • 7:00 AM Candidates must be flexible and available to work any shift. Overtime opportunities may be available but are not guaranteed.
  • Requirements
  • + Previous sheet metal fabrication and installation experience. + Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. + Experience using hand tools and fabrication equipment. + Ability to work safely in a shipyard and industrial environment. + Ability to meet physical demands of the position and wear required PPE.
  • Compensation

  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $30.00
