Job Overview We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and detail-oriented Solar Inspection Technician / Field Designer to join our team based out of our Frederick, MD office. This position combines field inspections, site assessments, solar system design, and project support to ensure the successful execution of residential solar installations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both in the field and in the office, traveling to customer homes and project sites to gather measurements, inspect installations, meet with inspectors, and create solar system designs. This role serves as a critical link between sales, design, permitting, and installation teams by ensuring projects are accurately documented, properly designed, and compliant with applicable codes and regulations. Experience with solar installations, electrical systems, or construction is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who is dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. Requirements ✔ Valid driver's license (required) ✔ Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time (includes $75 per diem each day) ✔ Ability to occasionally stay overnight for distant job sites ✔ Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions ✔ Comfortable working on roofs, climbing ladders, and working at heights ✔ Ability to enter attics and other confined spaces ✔ Basic understanding of electrical wiring and electrical systems ✔ Ability to perform light electrical tasks as part of the role ✔ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills ✔ Ability to work independently and as part of a team ✔ Effective communication skills ✔ Experience with computers, spreadsheets, and design software (ViaCAD, Excel, Google Drive experience preferred) Key Responsibilities Travel to residential project sites to collect measurements and site information Measure and photograph roof dimensions, rooftop obstructions, rafters, and structural elements Evaluate rooftops and collect solar exposure data for system design Create residential solar system designs using CAD software (ViaCAD training provided) Maintain accurate project documentation, photographs, and field notes Coordinate and communicate inspection schedules with homeowners and local inspectors Meet with county inspectors and represent the company during inspections Present installed equipment and provide required documentation during inspections Document inspection results and create correction lists when necessary Verify completed installations align with approved plans and applicable codes Install solar monitoring equipment and perform light electrical work as needed Assist with service work and troubleshooting of existing solar systems Collaborate with sales, design, permitting, and installation teams to ensure project accuracy and completion Follow all company vehicle policies and safety procedures Assist with additional duties and special projects as assigned Preferred Qualifications Experience in solar, electrical, roofing, construction, or related trades Familiarity with residential electrical systems Experience using CAD or design software Knowledge of residential building and electrical codes Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively Schedule & Compensation Full-time, year-round position with opportunities for growth and skill development. Starting pay : $32,000 annually, based on experience. 10-hour shifts, Monday-Thursday (4-day workweek, no weekends!) Salary-based pay (tracked via company vehicle GPS)
