Job Description

Lead Field Service Technician to work on systems in southern NY state, 5 boroughs, northern NJ, and CT areas Tri-Force Energy (TFE) is a solar technical services firm, specializing in inspections, testing, and maintenance of commercial and utility scale solar energy systems. Our clients include solar system owners, asset managers, and installation contractors who seek third-party skilled labor to help promote the long-term quality of their installations and maximize system production during the 20+ year operation of a solar system. TFE is seeking experienced field technicians with strong technical aptitude, leadership capability, and a commitment to quality to join our team. We are a team that works together to support each other (Technicians), the sites we service (Clients), and the standard we set as an industry-leading company (TFE). The Lead Field Service Technician is a highly skilled field operator responsible for executing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities on commercial and utility-scale solar PV and Energy Storage systems. This role leads small field teams, ensures safe and efficient job execution, and serves as the primary on-site point of contact. The Lead Technician works independently in the field while coordinating with the Senior Technical Field Service Lead for complex technical escalation and guidance.
Job Requirements Technical Proficiency:
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of commercial and utility-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), including troubleshooting of AC/DC electrical systems, inverters, monitoring platforms, and balance-of-system components.
Field Leadership:
Lead and direct field crews (1-3 technicians), assigning tasks, managing workflow, and ensuring efficient and safe job execution.
Execution Ownership:
Take full responsibility for on-site work execution, including inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs, ensuring all work is completed to company and client standards.
Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues in solar PV and energy storage systems, escalating complex issues to senior technical leadership when required.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all work performed meets company quality standards, project specifications, and applicable codes and regulations.
Customer Interaction:
Serve as the primary on-site representative, communicating professionally with clients regarding work performed, findings, and system conditions.
Safety Compliance:
Enforce and adhere to OSHA, NFPA, and company safety standards at all times, ensuring a safe work environment for all personnel.
Documentation:
Accurately complete field service reports, inspection reports, and testing documentation in a timely and professional manner.
Collaboration:
Coordinate with Senior Technical Field Service Lead and management to resolve technical issues and improve field execution practices.
Continuous Learning:
Stay current with solar and energy storage technologies, equipment, and field best practices.
Resource Management:
Maintain accountability for company-issued tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring proper use and care. Typical Daily Job Duties Perform and document solar and energy storage system inspections, testing, and repairs including Construction Quality Control (QCI), Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI), Commissioning (CX), and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems. Lead field crews in executing assigned service work, ensuring efficiency, safety, and quality standards are met. Diagnose and repair issues related to inverters, combiner boxes, switchgear, monitoring systems, and AC/DC electrical components. Test AC & DC electrical circuits using diagnostic equipment such as infrared thermal cameras, IV curve tracers, and multimeters. Install and maintain monitoring systems and associated equipment. Complete and submit daily field service reports, IR imaging reports, and I-V curve tracing reports. Communicate job status, findings, and issues to clients, coworkers, and management. Maintain service vehicles, tools, electronics, and company-issued equipment in proper working condition. Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with
OSHA / NFPA
standards. Be willing and able to work during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm). Be willing and able to work outside normal business hours from time-to-time. Required Qualifications 3+ years of Commercial Solar and/or Energy Storage inspection or Operation & Maintenance (O&M) experience. 5+ years' experience in commercial electrical and/or mechanical industry. Experience with commercial and utility-scale systems (1MW+) PV & Energy Storage systems and associated MV/LV infrastructure Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex electrical infrastructure. Experience mentoring or training other technicians in a field environment. OSHA 10 for Construction Certificate. Ability to travel overnight and out of state for short periods of time. Must have and maintain a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record. Must maintain a personal vehicle. Must be reachable by mobile phone during normal business hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm). Must be able to continuously climb ladders and stairs, lift 100 pounds, and work on your feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to work outdoors in extreme environments. Strong organizational, communication, and technical documentation skills. Proficient use of smart phones, tablets, and computers. Preferred Qualifications Licensed Electrician (Journeyman or equivalent) Experience with utility-scale solar systems (1MW+) and/or BESS systems NABCEP or SEI PV Certificate OSHA 30 for Construction Certificate

Pay:
$40.00 - $60.00 per hour
