Full-time Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Project Manager to oversee solar installation projects for commercial projects in Northern California. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of solar system installation, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves handling Request for Information (RFI) management, schedule oversight, and supervision of both internal teams and external subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Planning & Coordination:
Lead and manage all phases of the solar installation process for commercial new construction projects, from pre-construction through project completion. Develop and manage project schedules, ensuring timely delivery and identifying potential risks or delays. Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to ensure project plans align with client requirements, local codes, and regulatory standards.
RFI Management:
Oversee the management of Requests for Information (RFIs), ensuring timely responses and resolutions to prevent project delays. Review project documentation to identify potential issues or ambiguities, and proactively coordinate with stakeholders to resolve. Ensure that all RFIs are documented, tracked, and communicated effectively with the appropriate parties.
Supervision & Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor an internal superintendent, ensuring high levels of communication, collaboration, and productivity. Oversee external subcontractors, ensuring their performance aligns with project expectations for quality, safety, and timeline adherence. Manage regular site visits from internal superintendent to monitor progress and ensure adherence to plans, safety protocols, and quality standards.
Schedule & Budget Management:
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, working closely with stakeholders to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met. Monitor project budgets, tracking expenses and managing resources to ensure cost-effective solutions. Regularly update senior management on project status, including progress reports, budget tracking, and potential risks.
Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to solar installations and commercial construction. Ensure that solar systems are installed according to design specifications and meet the highest industry standards for safety, performance, and durability. Perform site inspections to verify quality, troubleshoot issues, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Client & Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain strong communication with clients, contractors, architects, and engineers throughout the project lifecycle. Provide regular updates to stakeholders on project progress, addressing any concerns or changes that may arise. Foster positive client relationships, ensuring satisfaction with both the process and the final delivered product.
Problem-Solving & Issue Resolution:
Proactively address any challenges that arise during the project lifecycle, offering solutions and mitigating risks. Handle conflicts or issues related to subcontractors, internal teams, or other stakeholders to maintain smooth project operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred). Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, specifically with commercial construction and solar installations. Strong understanding of solar system design, installation processes, and California building codes and regulations. Proven experience managing RFIs, schedules, budgets, and both internal and external teams. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency with project management software and customer management software (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, Buildertrend, Salesforce, Monday.com). Knowledge of safety standards and ability to enforce safety protocols on construction sites. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with a focus on delivering high-quality results within deadlines.
Additional Information:
This role requires occasional travel to job sites across California. The position may involve working in various weather conditions and environments typical of construction sites.
