Job Description

Tile Setter — Midwest Residential (hiring at two levels) Toledo & Northwest Ohio
  • Full-time
  • 1099
  • $30-36/hr DOE → $40
  • We buy your consumables + pay for training We manage remodels like a business, not a side job — and we're rebuilding our tile division.
We want craftsmen who are genuinely into tile to help build it. We used to self-perform all our tile. We got away from it, and we're done eating callbacks on subbed-out work. We're bringing tile back in-house and hiring setters who install to spec, hold a real standard, and produce — and who want to be part of building something. We're hiring at two levels: Tile Lead — showers, waterproofing, and the specialty work (large-format, natural stone, mosaics, heated floors, custom pans). You anchor the division. Tile Setter — floors, walls, backsplash. Strong, clean, productive. (We'll grow you into showers over time.) What you'd own: Set tile to a craftsman standard: clean grout lines, no lippage , thoughtful layout, proper substrate prep — and on showers, proper slope and waterproofing that does not leak. Lay out a room so the cut never lands on the focal wall; coordinate transitions and heights with adjacent floors. Keep your work clean as you go (no thinset everywhere), protect the home, and follow through — caulk, trim, the details. Cut with the right tool for speed and finish (snapper, wet saw, in-place cuts, miters, radius, remade factory edges), and use lasers.
What we need:
5+ years setting tile; remodel experience a plus. Training/certs (NTCA, CTEF, Schluter) are great.
Lead applicants:
shower + waterproofing competence is a must, plus the specialty skills above.
Setter applicants:
strong floor/wall/backsplash; showers not required. Pride in clean, to-spec work — and the discipline to follow our system , not wing it. Owns your main kit (wet saw, snapper, lasers, leveling). Reliable transportation.
What we offer:
$30-36/hr (1099) depending on level and experience , growing to $40 as you certify and take on leadership. We invest in you — we buy your consumables (blades, hole saws), help with the costly tools, and pay for certs and manufacturer training. Most shops make you buy everything yourself. Steady, full-time, year-round work — no sub feast-or-famine. Real craft and variety — showers, custom, large-format, stone — not monotonous tract floors. Ground floor of a rebuild — help build the division and own it. A real path to lead.
How to apply:
Send a note on your experience and photos of your work — showers, custom layouts, stone, big-format, detail shots. No photos, no interview. Midwest Residential is an equal-opportunity contractor. This is a full-time 1099 contract position.
Pay:
Up to $40.00 per hour
Benefits:
Flexible schedule Professional development assistance
Work Location:
In person
