Job Description

The Allergy Technician supports physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of allergic and immunologic conditions. This role combines direct patient care, biologic and immunotherapy administration, diagnostic testing, medication coordination, and clinical/office operations.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for preparing patients for examinations and escorting them into the exam room.
Preparation includes the following:
height, weight, and vital signs; update medication list; update allergies in record; update personal, family, and social history; inquire about smoking status; obtain the reason for the visit. Assists in capturing demographic information. Administer and coordinate biologic therapies for allergy, asthma, dermatologic, and immunologic conditions, including patient education and monitoring for adverse reactions and anaphylaxis. Coordinate infusion therapies serving as a liaison between patients, infusion providers, pharmacies, and physicians to ensure continuity of care. Prepare, compound, and maintain extracts in compliance with compliance standards, including documentation, quality control, and inventory management. Administer allergen immunotherapy injections, assess patient eligibility, adjust dosing per protocol, and manage local or systemic reactions. Perform diagnostic allergy testing and challenge procedures, including skin, venom, drug, and food testing, with appropriate patient monitoring and documentation. Conduct pulmonary function testing, obtain and document vital signs, and assist providers during office visits and procedures. Provide patient education on medications, inhaler and nebulizer techniques, self-administration of biologics, environmental controls, and allergen avoidance. Responsible for disposing of Bio-Hazardous waste and regular waste per practice protocol.
EDUCATION
High School degree or equivalent required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience in similar healthcare setting is preferred. Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
