We work with multiple utility and energy efficiency programs to help homeowners and property owners make their buildings more comfortable, energy efficient, and cost-effective. We are looking for someone who can do more than simply walk through a home and check a box. We need a hands-on, experienced field professional who understands how homes work, can identify energy efficiency opportunities, communicate with customers, make minor repairs, and recognize when a customer could benefit from additional services. If you have experience in weatherization, insulation, HVAC, home inspections, construction, remodeling, carpentry, or residential energy efficiency , this may be a great fit. The Position The Energy Efficiency Assessor / Home Performance Advisor is a hybrid field position combining residential energy assessments, weatherization knowledge, minor home repairs, customer education, and sales. You will visit residential and multifamily properties, evaluate the condition and energy efficiency of the building, document your findings with photographs and measurements, and determine what improvements may help the customer reduce energy usage and improve comfort. You will also work with customers who may not qualify for a utility-sponsored program but are still interested in improving their home. This position requires someone who can look at a home and think: "What is happening here, why is it happening, and what can we do to improve it?" What You Will DoResidential Energy Assessments Conduct in-home energy efficiency assessments and walkthroughs. Take detailed photographs, measurements, notes, and documentation. Evaluate attics, crawlspaces, walls, basements, mechanical areas, and other areas affecting energy efficiency. Identify potential insulation, air sealing, ventilation, and weatherization needs. Evaluate general HVAC conditions and recognize obvious opportunities for repair, replacement, maintenance, or efficiency improvements. Identify potential health, safety, moisture, or building-condition concerns and report them appropriately. Determine whether a residence may qualify for available utility or energy efficiency programs. Complete required documentation accurately and thoroughly. Follow program-specific requirements, procedures, and documentation standards. Work with residential and multifamily properties. Minor Repairs & Hands-On Work Perform minor carpentry and handyman repairs when appropriate. Make basic repairs associated with weatherization or energy efficiency work. Repair or address minor drywall, trim, access, sealing, or other household issues. Safely use common hand and power tools. Recognize when a repair is outside the scope of the position and requires a qualified trade professional. Maintain a clean and professional work area while working inside customers' homes. Customer Education & Sales Explain energy efficiency findings to homeowners and property representatives in a clear, easy-to-understand manner. Educate customers on how insulation, air sealing, HVAC systems, and other improvements can affect comfort and utility costs. Identify opportunities for additional work when customers do not qualify for utility programs. Present private-pay options and upgrades based on the customer's needs. Recommend solutions without using high-pressure sales tactics. Develop trust with customers and help them understand the value of recommended improvements. Follow up on opportunities and assist in converting qualified leads into completed work. Support both residential and multifamily sales opportunities. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who has a combination of construction knowledge, residential building knowledge, energy efficiency experience, and customer-facing skills. You do not necessarily need experience in every area listed below, but you should be strong in several of them: Residential energy assessments or home inspections Weatherization Insulation HVAC Residential construction or remodeling Carpentry Handyman or maintenance work Building science Utility energy efficiency programs Home performance Customer service Consultative sales Required Qualifications 3+ years of relevant residential construction, weatherization, energy efficiency, home inspection, HVAC, remodeling, or related field experience. Comfortable entering and working inside residential homes and multifamily properties. Ability to take accurate measurements and detailed photographs. Ability to identify basic insulation, HVAC, air leakage, moisture, and building-condition issues. Basic carpentry and handyman skills. Comfortable using hand and power tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Professional appearance and ability to interact respectfully with homeowners and property representatives. Ability to explain technical information to customers in a simple, understandable way. Ability and willingness to participate in customer sales conversations. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining communication with management and the office. Ability to safely work in attics, crawlspaces, basements, mechanical areas, and other residential environments when required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs. Experience with CEDA, RI, WHE, Indiana utility programs, or similar weatherization/energy efficiency programs. BPI certification or other energy efficiency certification. Experience with HVAC systems. Home inspection experience. OSHA or construction safety training. Experience working with residential or multifamily properties. Experience with CompanyCam, ServiceTitan, or similar field documentation software. Previous experience selling home improvement, HVAC, insulation, weatherization, or energy efficiency services. What Makes Someone Successful in This Position?
