Job Description
Job Overview Farm to Cake is growing our bread program, and we are looking for the right person to grow with us. We are a scratch bakery focused on naturally fermented breads, fresh-milled grains, and real ingredients. Everything we make is built around traditional methods, long fermentation, and handcrafted production—not shortcuts or mixes. We are looking for someone who already has kitchen experience and wants to learn the craft of artisan bread baking in a serious production environment. Bread experience is a plus, but it is not required. We can teach bread baking. What we cannot teach is work ethic, urgency, organization, and the ability to think ahead in a fast-paced kitchen. This is a hands-on production position involving: Mixing, scaling, shaping, proofing, and baking breads and bagels Working with fresh-milled grains and naturally fermented doughs Managing multiple doughs and production timelines Learning baker's percentages, formulas, and production systems Maintaining a clean, organized, food-safe environment Helping build a growing real-food bread program from the ground up We are looking for someone who: Has restaurant or production kitchen experience Works well in a fast-paced environment Can multitask and stay organized Takes pride in consistency and quality Wants to learn and improve every day Is dependable and works well as part of a team At Farm to Cake, we are building something different. Our focus is on real bread, fresh-milled grains, scratch-made foods, and bringing craftsmanship back into everyday food. This position has room to grow for the right person as our bread and production programs continue expanding. Compensation is based on experience, skill level, and the ability to work independently within production systems. True trainee-level candidates typically begin around $16/hour while learning our production methods and systems. As skills, speed, consistency, and responsibility increase, compensation grows as well. Performance and growth are reviewed regularly, with opportunities for pay increases as team members become more independent and productive contributors within the program. Experienced and highly productive contributors may exceed $20/hour over time.
