ASA Bus Driver CDL -- Northeast YMCA Northeast Branch - Birmingham, AL 35215 Apply Overview Position Type Part Time Apply Description At the YMCA, we are dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As a Bus Driver, you play a key role in that mission by providing safe, reliable transportation while creating a positive and supportive environment for every child and family you serve. This role goes beyond driving. You help ensure that every child feels safe, welcomed, and valued from pickup to drop-off. What you will do Safely transport children and staff to and from program locations in accordance with YMCA policies and state laws Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections, including recording mileage, fuel levels, and maintenance needs Maintain a clean, organized, and safe vehicle each day Promote safety at all times, including ensuring first aid supplies are fully stocked Clearly communicate and enforce bus safety rules in a positive and respectful manner Build strong, friendly relationships with children, parents, staff, and volunteers Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions Support additional program areas as needed Working with youth Follow YMCA policies regarding appropriate boundaries with children and teens Complete required abuse risk management training annually Safely supervise children, especially during higher-risk activities Report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior immediately Follow all mandated reporting requirements Qualifications Minimum qualifications Valid CDL with passenger endorsement At least one year of bus driving experience preferred Knowledge of commercial passenger vehicle regulations and safety standards Ability and desire to work with children in a positive and engaging way Successful completion of a background screening Training and certifications Within 30 days of hire, you will obtain and maintain: First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (through YMCA-approved providers such as American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or ASHI) Required online training modules (completed prior to start date and annually thereafter) Physical requirements Ability to safely operate a bus for extended periods Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations Strong visual and auditory awareness to identify potential hazards Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, and walking indoors and outdoors
