Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Looking for a dynamic opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming K-12 educational environment near Lawrence, MA? A contract, full-time position is available for an experienced interpreter to provide critical communication support to students for both ESY (Extended School Year) services over the next 5 weeks and continuing through the upcoming academic year. You'll be supporting a student who currently benefits from the expertise of a Teacher of the Deaf (TOD), utilizes an FM system, and wears cochlear implants. Your expertise will play a crucial role in fostering meaningful classroom participation and social engagement, helping bridge communication and ensure an accessible learning experience.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (EIPA, RID, or state credentials preferred) Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other necessary communication modes Experience interpreting in educational or school settings, especially with K-12 students Comfort collaborating as part of an educational team, including working with TODs Familiarity with or willingness to learn FM systems and technology paired with cochlear implants Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilitiesKey Responsibilities:
Provide direct interpretation services for a student during classroom instruction, activities, and school-related events Work closely with teaching staff and support professionals to deliver individualized access to curriculum Adapt interpreting approaches as needed for spoken, signed, and technological communication methods Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and accurate records of services Actively participate in IEP meetings and related goal-setting discussions, contributing insights on communication access You'll work in a collaborative and student-focused environment, starting ASAP, with the chance to make a meaningful impact over the summer term and throughout the full school year.
