The Aspen Community School is a public charter school in Woody Creek, Colorado serving 135 students. The Teaching Assistant is responsible for supporting classroom teachers in planning, implementing, and delivering instruction to a variety of ability levels. As a member of a teaching team, the assistant will accomplish these duties while working with students, parents, other teachers, and staff toward achieving the goals set forth by the school community. First & Second Grade Teaching Assistant Role, listed below but not limited to: Work with the classroom teacher to establish a safe and respectful learning environment for all students, integrating ACS expectations for academic excellence, relevance, and focus on relationships Build positive relationships with the students, parents, and staff Support the delivery of effective instruction across subject areas Effectively manage small or large groups of children during academic, transitional, or recess periods Effectively manage the whole group of children during structured independent work time for15-30 minutes Support effective classroom management by reinforcing clear classroom expectations Share the responsibility for conducting a prepared, organized and professional classroom Model and foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving, and increasing autonomy Demonstrate a developmental understanding of young children Pursue professional development based on feedback and discussion with teaching team and school leadership Identify an area of ownership within the classroom or program to plan and execute developing teaching skills in collaboration with teaching team Support consistent and effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues Support and participate in required activities such as but not limited to: Back to School Night, Family BBQ, the Winter Celebration, CTB, Spring Musical, and Outdoor Education trips that enhance our program outside of instructional hours Follow policies established by the COMPASS Board of Directors, administration, the respective school district, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where COMPASS has received waivers Complete other duties as assigned Support and uphold all school policies Requirements B.A. or B.S. required in the specific content area (e.g. B.A. in History when applying for Social Studies position). Must meet the requirements of an in-field teacher for the Every Student Succeeds Act. Current Colorado Teaching License preferred. Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.Skills and Abilities:
Read, write, and interpret various documents such as rules, policies, expectations, agreements, rubrics, scope and sequence documents, and assessment documents. Speak effectively before groups of staff, students, Board of Directors, Administrators, and parents. Understand and carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations. Work collaboratively with various groups. Apply an entrepreneurial outlook and a charter school commitment. Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate different tasks. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills while working with a diverse population. Initiate work with limited supervision and to be highly self-motivated. Use sound judgment as determined by the specific situation.Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to talk, walk, stand and hear. Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, grasp, and perform light lifting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.Working Conditions:
Work is performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes exposure to moderate and sometimes loud noise. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, COMPASS Board of Directors, and parents. Occasionally work may consist of ten (10) plus hour days with weekend work as needed.Position Type:
