Job Description

  • Job Title:
    Cable Assembly Technician
  • Job Description
  • This role focuses on building cable assemblies from scratch in a fast-paced cable cell environment using a batching method.
You will rotate through multiple workstations such as cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering wires, working both manually and with small machines. The position includes comprehensive cross-training so you can perform a variety of tasks rather than repeating the same operation every day.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Build cable assemblies from scratch according to blueprints, standard operating procedures, and documented work instructions.
+ Rotate between batching stations, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering, to support efficient production flow. + Perform wire cutting operations using manual tools or designated machines, ensuring accurate lengths and clean cuts. + Strip insulation from wires with hand tools or stripping equipment while maintaining wire integrity and quality standards. + Crimp terminals, connectors, and contacts onto wires and cables using appropriate crimping tools and torque wrenches. + Perform soldering tasks on cable assemblies once certified, following IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards and company procedures. + Complete mechanical and electronic assembly tasks as needed to support overall product builds. + Use hand tools, torque wrenches, and other assembly equipment safely and effectively. + Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to complete work accurately. + Follow all documentation requirements, including recording work performed and updating travelers and production records in the computer system. + Inspect work visually and with basic measurement tools to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications. + Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure reliable cable harnesses and medical-related assemblies. + Follow regulated work environment guidelines while working on medical instrument assemblies. + Participate in and follow a structured training program, using provided training materials and binders to build skills at each station. + Communicate effectively with team members and leadership, accepting in-the-moment feedback to improve performance. + Support production needs by working occasional overtime, including some Saturdays or adjusted weekday schedules, as required. + Maintain a clean and organized workstation and comply with all ESD and PPE requirements.
  • Essential Skills
  • + Experience with cable and wire work, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and cable harness assembly.
+ Ability to perform or learn soldering on cable assemblies in line with IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards. + Ability to read and follow blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures. + Comfort using hand tools, including crimpers, wire strippers, and torque wrenches. + Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality medical-related assemblies. + Basic computer skills to follow electronic documentation and record work. + Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated production environment. + Willingness to rotate between multiple workstations and learn all stages of the cable assembly process. + Reliability and flexibility to support overtime needs, including occasional Saturdays or adjusted weekday schedules.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + IPC-610 or IPC-620 soldering certification preferred but not required; the company can support obtaining these certifications.
+ Prior experience with medical device or medical assembly environments is a plus. + Familiarity with cable harness assembly and related documentation practices is beneficial. + Comfort working from detailed travelers and following documented quality processes. + Openness to structured training programs that include written training materials and regular feedback.

  • Work Environment
  • You will work in a very clean, comfortable, and well-lit facility focused on building medical instruments in a regulated, but not clean-room, environment.
The cable cell uses both manual tools and small machines at each station to support efficient batching of work. The dress code is casual, typically jeans with a collared shirt, and you will wear an ESD smock as your primary PPE. The workplace is temperature controlled, and you are allowed to wear headphones while working, although phone use is tightly restricted on the production floor. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of occasional overtime, including up to two Saturdays per month or adjusted hours if a Monday-Thursday schedule is implemented. The facility has renovated break rooms with comfortable seating, entertainment options such as shuffleboard, dart boards, and foosball tables, as well as canteen vending, coffee, and frequent treats and snacks.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
