Job Title:
Assembly Technician Job Description This role focuses on assembling custom assemblies for industrial and utility applications. You will perform mechanical and electrical assembly, interpret blueprints, and apply basic electrical theory to build high-quality control panels and related equipment. The position offers steady full-time hours and the opportunity to develop hands-on experience in electrical assembly within a small, supportive shop environment. Responsibilities Read and interpret tape measures, blueprints, and assembly drawings to complete work accurately. Perform mechanical assembly using screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and other hardware to secure components and complete assemblies. Carry out wiring tasks, including identifying wire sizes, stripping insulation, and performing crimping operations to specified standards. Apply electrical circuit knowledge and basic electrical theory to assemble control circuits safely (no work on live wires). Assemble and route cables and wiring harnesses for control panels and related equipment. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete assembly work. Work as part of a small assembly team to build custom electrical control assemblies for industrial and utility projects. Follow written and verbal instructions to meet quality standards and customer specifications. Lift, move, and position parts and assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds as needed. Meet production deadlines while maintaining accuracy, quality, and attention to detail. Maintain a clean and organized work area and care for personal tools and shared equipment. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to resolve assembly issues and improve processes. Essential Skills Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately. Experience with mechanical assembly using screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and related hardware. Basic wiring skills, including understanding wire sizes, stripping, and crimping operations. Foundational electrical circuit knowledge and understanding of basic electrical theory. Knowledge of wiring practices, including AC and DC voltages and control relays. Ability to interpret blueprints and assembly documentation. Proficient use of hand tools and power tools in an assembly environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily tasks. Ownership of basic personal tools required for electrical and mechanical assembly (full list provided by employer). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as an assembler, electrical assembler, wire assembler, control assembler, or similar role is helpful but not required. Familiarity with cabling and control panel assembly in industrial or utility applications is an advantage. Comfort working independently and as part of a small team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Willingness to learn and develop skills in electrical assembly and control systems. The position typically offers around 40 hours per week, with periods of higher workload that may lead to additional hours. Work is hands-on and performed at benches or assembly stations using standard hand tools, power tools, wiring tools, and measuring devices. The environment is typical of a light industrial assembly shop, where practical, safe work attire is expected to support comfort and safety while handling tools, components, and assemblies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dundalk, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
