Head Coach Men's Basketball Job Summary:
The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in planning, recruiting, and coaching members of the Men's Basketball Team. Will assist in managing and directing the Men's Basketball program.Position Duties:
Assists the head coach in managing and directing the basketball program. Teach basketball fundamentals and techniques, as directed by the Head Coach. Assist with year-round scouting and recruiting student-athletes for the men's basketball program. All athletes must be able to compete in the NJCAA and the KJCCC. Recruitment efforts will include global recruitment. Assists the Head Coach with all aspects of the team including training, competing, and scheduling. Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior. Maintain knowledge of offensive and defensive coaching strategies. Represent Cowley College and the men's Basketball Program professionally. Be familiar with and follow all policies and procedures of the KJCCC and NJCAA. Organize and maintain an accurate inventory of basketball equipment and uniforms. Assist with coordination of travel arrangements. Coordinate facility needs of visiting teams. Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the college positively when interacting with the community, other College departments, alumni, high school and club coaches, media, and the general public.Required Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to teach fundamental skills of basketball. Sound knowledge of basketball coaching. Ability to represent the educational goals and philosophy of Cowley College to members of the college community and prospective students. Must possess a positive attitude towards students and understand their social and personal development needs. Demonstrate an ability to supervise and positively motivate students. Must have the ability to react quickly in emergencies. Must have the ability to remain calm in tense situations and effectively deal with confrontational situations. Ability to work independently, as well as on a team. Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Good communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures. Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Understanding of and commitment to AQIP.Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree, required. Master's Degree, preferred.Required Experience:
Minimum of high school coaching experience. College-level recruiting and coaching experience, preferred. Valid Driver's License. A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.Physical Requirements:
Ability to maintain physical mobility and composure and to assist with physical student activity; Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive a motor vehicle.Work Environment:
Work is performed indoors and/or outdoors in conditions including loud and constant noise. The employee is required to travel.KPERS Benefits:
