QUALIFICATIONS
1. Valid Connecticut Teacher Certification or related area 2. Administrative/Supervisor Connecticut 092 Certification 3. Experience /knowledge of special education services for students with complex needs including social/emotional/behavioral challenges/intellectual disabilities/transition 4. Demonstrated success as an effective leader. 5. Must possess the skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, supervise a wide range of programs and personnel, and engage in large-scale program improvement. 6. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of special education law mandates and guidelines. 7. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills. 8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL
Under the direction of Director of Pupil Services, provide instructional leadership, coordination, vision, and evaluation of all aspects of the specialized programs in the Simsbury Public Schools. Provide each student serviced within a specialized program with appropriate educational, social, and behavioral supports that will enable him/her to reach his/her potential educationally, physically, and emotionally. Includes oversight and leadership for the following support services: Special Education, Social Work, School Psychology, Speech and Language, Autism Consultation, Intensive Learning Needs, Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Vocational and Transition Services, Occupational and Physical Therapy, Services for the Hearing Impaired, In District and Out of District Placements
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Vision Planning and Preparation:
In collaboration with program staff, provide the leadership necessary to ensure compliance with departmental procedures. Cooperatively develop and implement the vision of district specialized programs inclusive of clear entrance and exit criteria, program handbook, and roles/responsibilities of staff in accordance with district special education policies. Cooperatively develop goals, objectives, and curricula for specialized programs. Cooperatively develop and implement a program for the evaluation of specialized programming Develop and present to the Director of Pupil Services annual budget information relative to projected program needs, caseloads, and staffing. Provide leadership and supervision to program personnel in the management of special education cases where administrative oversight is warranted. Supervise and evaluate program certified and non-certified personnel in collaboration with the Director of Pupil Services.
Specialized Program responsibilities:
Create and maintain a building-wide learning environment in which students are actively engaged. Provide academic instruction in functional reading, writing, and math skills for those students requiring significant remediation of skills. Provide community and social instruction in a variety of natural environments. Collaborate with all members of the New Path instructional and support team on an on-going basis. Collaborate with the building clinical staff to design and implement effective behavioral supports and individual intervention plans. Establish routines and schedules to ensure effective collaboration with related service providers to New Path students. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, except in situations requiring that information be shared. Attend all PPTs and student meetings regarding any student assigned to the New Path program as well as students being considered for placement into New Path. Maintain communications with parents regarding student performance and needs. Establish effective vehicles of communication between home and school so as to ensure parent involvement in the student's educational program and goals. Maintains appropriate student progress records, individual educational program and evaluation reports and prepares pertinent reports requested by the Director of Pupil Services.
Related Service Supports:
Establish appropriate service and staffing levels for the department Design and implement professional development for administrators, certified staff, and non-certified staff annually, aligned with district and department development plans In consultation with the psychologist/social worker or special education teacher, provide students with appropriate contracts and follow through on behavioral strategies recommended.
Professional Development:
Accept responsibility for personal professional development and growth in order to improve teaching, and knowledge related to the instruction of students with social emotional behavioral disabilities including, but not limited to, participation in related conferences and organizations. Collaborate with other special education department team members in order to ensure compliance with departmental procedures. Carries out other responsibilities as designated by the Director of Pupil Services.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12-month calendar as determined by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and in accordance with the provisions of P.A. 74-278
