POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Football Coach (Open Assignment) is responsible for contributing to all aspects of the football program, including coaching, recruiting, academic support, player development, and daily operations. This position is intentionally structured as a flexible role to allow assignment based on the strengths, experience, and skill set of the selected candidate, as well as the needs of the program. The Assistant Football Coach is expected to operate with a high level of accountability, professionalism, and consistency while supporting the overall mission, culture, and standards of the football program. This role requires adaptability, a strong work ethic, and the ability to contribute across multiple areas without limitation to a single position or responsibility.
PRIMARY DUTIES / ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Coach and develop student-athletes in assigned position group(s) as determined by staff structure and program needs. 2. Teach and reinforce fundamentals, techniques, assignments, and responsibilities. 3. Plan and conduct position meetings, individual drills, and skill development sessions. 4. Assist in practice planning, organization, and execution to ensure efficiency and tempo. 5. Evaluate player performance and provide consistent, corrective feedback. 6. Assist in game planning, opponent preparation, and film breakdown. 7. Support game day execution, including substitutions, communication, and sideline organization. 8. Maintain discipline, accountability, and effort standards within assigned responsibilities. 9. Contribute to overall team development through leadership, communication, and consistency. 10. Perform all duties assigned by the Head Coach or Coordinator.
ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Conduct regular class checks for assigned student-athletes. 2. Monitor and enforce study hall attendance and participation. 3. Track academic progress and maintain awareness of eligibility status. 4. Identify at-risk student-athletes and report concerns to the Academic Coordinator. 5. Reinforce academic accountability and expectations within the assigned group. 6. Enforce consequences for missed academic responsibilities when necessary. 7. Follow all academic directives provided by the Academic Coordinator and General Manager. 8. Promote the importance of academic success as part of overall player development.
OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Assist with daily field setup and breakdown, ensuring all equipment and areas are prepared. 2. Participate in all team travel, including transportation, lodging, and scheduled functions. 3. Conduct room checks and enforce curfew and lights-out expectations during travel. 4. Assist with equipment responsibilities, including laundry, distribution, and collection of gear. 5. Support game day operations, including sideline organization and communication. 6. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the locker room and field house. 7. Support loading and unloading of equipment for practices and games. 8. Assist with the transportation of equipment or materials when assigned. 9. Attend weight room sessions and assist in monitoring player participation. 10. Attend team chapel and all required football program functions. 11. Support protein shake distribution and recovery operations when assigned. 12. Assist in organizing and executing Skull Sessions and player development meetings. 13. Assist with receiving and organizing program-related packages and deliveries. 14. Complete all assigned operational duties without the need for repeated instruction.
RECRUITING RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS 1.
Actively recruit prospective student-athletes on a daily and consistent basis. 2. Maintain regular communication with assigned recruits, including calls, texts, and follow-ups. 3. Evaluate prospects based on program needs and positional requirements. 4. Participate in recruiting visits, official visits, and recruiting events. 5. Assist in identifying student-athletes who fit both athletic and cultural expectations of the program. 6. Maintain organization and tracking of recruiting communication and activity. 7. Meet recruiting expectations as assigned by the Head Coach or Coordinator. 8. Represent the football program professionally in all recruiting interactions. 9. Assist in organizing and executing recruiting visits and events. 10. Participate in recruiting travel when assigned.

Maintain professional appearance and dress at all times (practice, games, travel, meetings, recruiting events). 2. Use professional, respectful, and appropriate language in all interactions. 3. Maintain proper grooming and hygiene consistent with program standards. 4. Demonstrate consistency, accountability, and reliability in all responsibilities. 5. Be punctual, prepared, and organized for all assigned duties. 6. Communicate clearly and effectively with players, staff, and administration. 7. Maintain emotional control and professionalism in all situations. 8. Represent the football program and institution positively at all times. 9. Avoid any behavior or communication that negatively impacts team culture or operations. 10. Demonstrate a team-first mentality and willingness to support all areas of the program.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPECTATIONS 1.
Attend all required staff meetings and football program meetings. 2. Participate in coaching clinics, development opportunities, and professional growth events. 3. Continue to study football systems, strategies, and position-specific techniques. 4. Maintain knowledge of rules, compliance requirements, and institutional expectations. 5. Seek continuous improvement in coaching ability, communication, and leadership. 6. Be open to feedback and implement adjustments for improvement. 7. Develop the ability to contribute across multiple areas of the football program.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS
The Assistant Football Coach reports directly to the Head Football Coach and/or assigned Coordinator. This position works closely with all coaching staff members, graduate assistants, managers, and administrative personnel. The role requires daily interaction with student-athletes and consistent communication with staff regarding player development, academic status, recruiting, and operational responsibilities. Requirements 1. Bachelor's Degree required. 2. Coaching or playing experience at the collegiate or high school level preferred. 3. Strong knowledge of football fundamentals and systems. 4. Ability to teach, develop, and evaluate student-athletes. 5. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. 6. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and operate in a fast-paced environment. 7. Willingness to take on a flexible role within the program based on team needs. 8. Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record preferred or required based on institutional policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in a combination of office, field, weight room, locker room, and travel environments. The physical demands described here are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. 1. Ability to stand for extended periods during practices, games, and meetings. 2. Ability to walk, jog, and move continuously throughout practice fields and sidelines. 3. Ability to demonstrate football techniques, including running, shuffling, and directional changes. 4. Ability to bend, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach during coaching and operational duties. 5. Ability to use hands and arms for demonstration, signaling, and equipment handling. 6. Dexterity sufficient to operate computers, tablets, and film systems. 7. Ability to communicate clearly in both normal and high-noise environments. 8. Ability to hear and respond to verbal communication in loud environments. 9. Vision sufficient to evaluate player performance and game situations. 10. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds. 11. Ability to assist with loading and unloading equipment during travel. 12. Ability to travel frequently, including overnight stays and extended work hours. 13. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 14. Ability to maintain focus and responsiveness in dynamic, high-energy environments.
