ASSISTANT TO THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR
Newfoundland Area Public Library Newfoundland, PAJOB DESCRIPTION
Philosophy:
The Assistant Director will be supervised by the Library Director. The Assistant Director will be the secondary support to the Library Director and Library Volunteers. The Assistant will help the volunteers feel comfortable in their jobs and delegate tasks as necessary. The Assistant must be comfortable working alone, including nights and weekends. They must be flexible, community-minded, and able to multitask. Must support and uphold the library's mission and goals set by the Library Board and Library Director.Qualifications:
A high school degree is required with some college education desirable. Professional work experience may be considered a substitute for college education. Excellent computer skills. Neat, tidy appearance and professional manner. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Requirements:
Resume and recommendations. New employees are required to have current clearances.Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Library Director with administrative tasks, such as developing procedure manuals, and performing other duties as assigned. Provide volunteer training and supervision. Assist the Library Director by delegating appropriate tasks to volunteers. Attend library training and learn new procedures & upgrades as they occur. Assist at the circulation desk with tasks such as checkout, check-in, holds management, payments, registration and renewal of cards, and copying, faxing, printing, laminating, and scanning. Ensure daily tasks are completed, such as emptying the book drop, pulling items for holds, making sure all patrons are notified that holds are available, etc. Be available to answer questions. Assist in maintaining the collection, including ordering, repairing, replacing, and weeding books. Oversee book donation process. Assist with interlibrary loans. Keep the Library in order by managing shelves, monitoring placement of returned books so they are in their appropriate place, etc. Volunteers should be trained to do this also. Assist the director with managing the book and brick memorial programs. Assist patrons with the use of computers including printing, accessing websites, connecting to Wi-Fi, downloading e-books, etc. Answer the phone, make calls to patrons, and resolve issues. Send thank you notes for donations and memorials. Clean community board periodically to ensure material is up to date. Assist with circulation reports, including entering data into the statistics form on a daily or weekly basis. Assist the director with library program planning and management. Stay up to date on program offerings and maintain sign-up sheets. Be knowledgeable of and implement library-provided services, policies and procedures. Open and close the library & perform associated procedures. Assist with library fundraisers and attend other community events as a representative of the library when possible.Hours and Remuneration:
The position is part time. The number of hours is determined by the Library Board. The Library Director can determine the schedule in cooperation with the President of the Library Board. Wages will be based on hourly compensation. The Assistant Director will be paid on a bi-monthly schedule. An evaluation will be held once a year to determine job satisfaction and assess job performance.Pay:
