Assistant Manager - Zaman Coffee House

Zaman Coffee House is seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Manager (Shift Supervisor) to lead our team and uphold our commitment to specialty coffee excellence. In this role, you will oversee daily shift operations, mentor baristas, and ensure seamless service delivery. You will serve as the on-shift authority for workflow optimization, quality control, team coaching, and guest experience—ensuring every cup meets our exacting standards while fostering a positive, high-performance café culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Shift Leadership & Team Development Direct daily shift operations, delegate tasks strategically, and manage scheduling to maintain optimal staffing and workflow. Train, coach, and evaluate baristas on beverage craftsmanship, equipment operation, and hospitality standards. Address performance gaps promptly and deliver constructive, growth-oriented feedback. Beverage & Quality Excellence Execute and uphold precise standards for espresso extraction, milk texturing, manual brewing, and recipe consistency. Conduct routine quality audits to ensure taste, temperature, and presentation align with Zaman benchmarks. Perform daily equipment maintenance, troubleshoot minor issues, and coordinate service for espresso machines, grinders, and brewers. Guest Experience & Service Leadership Model proactive, hospitality-driven service and serve as the primary point of contact for guest feedback or resolution. Drive engagement through product knowledge, strategic upselling, and loyalty program promotion. Process transactions accurately using POS systems and maintain strict cash-handling and drawer reconciliation protocols. Operational & Compliance Management Monitor inventory levels, place timely supply orders, and minimize waste through portion control and waste logging. Enforce strict adherence to local health codes, food safety standards, and sanitation procedures. Execute opening/closing protocols, including cash reconciliation, security checks, and facility readiness. Support merchandising initiatives and maintain a clean, inviting, and brand-consistent café environment. Continuous Improvement Track shift metrics (speed of service, ticket accuracy, guest satisfaction) and implement process optimizations. Provide actionable insights to management for workflow enhancements, menu innovation, and staff training initiatives. Consistently uphold and evolve Zaman Coffee House's brand standards across all touchpoints.

Qualifications & Skills Preferred:

2+ years of high-volume or specialty coffee barista experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a shift lead or any supervisory role .

Technical Proficiency:

Demonstrated mastery of espresso theory, extraction variables, milk science, and manual brewing methods.

Leadership:

Proven ability to train, motivate, and hold a team accountable in a fast-paced café environment.

Operational Skills:

Strong inventory management, cash handling, POS proficiency, and health/safety compliance experience.

Communication:

Exceptional interpersonal, conflict resolution, and guest recovery skills.

Availability:

Reliable schedule flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

Preferred:

SCA certification, valid food handler's permit, or prior experience in a multi-unit or premium café setting.
