The Assistant Principal assists the Principal in the areas of instruction, staff supervision, programming, and curriculum.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assumes the duties of the Principal in his/her absence.
- Shares responsibility for a healthful environment and safe school facilities.
- Interprets the school and District programs, policies and procedures to students and staff.
- Assumes responsibility for the general supervision and discipline of students within the school.
- Assumes responsibility for aiding the Principal in the designing of a master schedule.
- Visits classrooms and participates in the evaluation of teachers and other staff members.
- Plans, supervises and directs all student activities and the use of school facilities.
- Assists with the selection and use of instructional materials, methods and textbooks.
- Supervises the use and the dissemination of instructional materials.
- Coordinates the development of course outlines and textbook evaluations.
- Coordinates the school testing program.
- Assists the Principal in the selection of staff members.
- Participates in the development of new instructional programs.
- Acts as a resource person to the faculty in instructional matters and classroom management techniques.
- Assists in the planning of school activities.
- Assumes responsibility for the general supervision and discipline of students and spectators at athletic events and other extra-curricular activities.
- Initiates and/or approves District permits, Declarations of Residency, Caregiver Affidavits, and referrals to other District schools.
- Works with parents to promote good relations between home and school.
- Works with the community and the communication media to promote a positive school-site image.
- Assumes responsibility for the administration, coordination and supervision of various State and Federal categorical programs including staffing, budget, mandated reviews and representation on school and District committees.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
- Assists in the orientation and supervision of new teachers.
- Supervises and coordinates school activities (may involve evening and weekend assignments) including, but not limited to, the student information systems, awards program, testing program, contests, school publications, school calendar, student body government elections and activities, and assemblies.
- Serves on the District Expulsion Panel as needed.
- Assists the Principal/Assistant Principal(s) in supervising buildings and grounds of the school, including the scheduling of the use of facilities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Credential:
- Valid California credential authorizing service as an administrator at the secondary school level.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
- Training in the broad aspects of school.
Experience:
- Successful teaching experience.
- Experience in counseling and curriculum development desirable.
- Experience demonstrating increased responsibility.
License:
- Valid California Driver's License.
