Assistant Professor, Biochemistry Position Type Faculty Faculty Track Tenure-Track Employment Status Full Time Months 9 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The University of New England College of Arts and Sciences (UNE-CAS) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor faculty position in biochemistry beginning in August 2026. The successful candidate will a join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in the School of Molecular and Physical Sciences (SMaPS). The SMaPS offers undergraduate academic programs in biochemistry, chemistry, laboratory science, and biophysics, as well as a biochemistry 4+1 (MS, biotechnology). The successful hire will advance the missions of the UNE Center for Cellular Signaling Research (CCSR), CAS, and SMaPS by developing a strong and collaborative research program in cellular signaling mechanisms or complementary areas relevant to health, disease, and therapeutic innovation. The researcher will contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment that integrates biomedical discovery with the educational focus of UNE. Responsibilities This tenure-track assistant-rank hire is expected to contribute to teaching, research and service missions of UNE-CAS with a 20:60:20 workload defined for the first three years of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching biochemistry and advanced courses suiting the candidate's expertise and aligned with the needs of the school and college. The candidate will also engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and university. The successful candidate is expected to develop an innovative, sustainable research program involving undergraduate and graduate researchers, as appropriate. This candidate's research program should complement and enhance the diverse biomedical research underway in the CCSR. The CCSR is funded by a phase 1 NIH Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) award, and provides research infrastructure, funding, and professional development mentoring for COBRE Research Project Leaders (RPLs) and the larger UNE research community. A goal for this position is to have the successful candidate develop the capacity to serve as one of the next generation of COBRE RPLs. The candidate will also have the opportunity to take advantage of several competitive internal funding programs supporting new project development. Qualifications A Ph.D. in biochemistry or a closely related field that aligns the candidate with the broad focus of the CCSR is required. Candidates possessing post-doctoral research experience and/or those with commensurate education and experience are preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong capacity for teaching undergraduate biochemistry lectures and labs, and the development of an innovative, sustainable research program. Individuals with prior teaching experience and/or grant writing experience will also be given preference.
