PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Assistant Superintendent for School Transformation and Leadership serves as a district leader responsible for driving significant and sustainable improvement in student achievement across elementary, middle, and high schools within the transformation network. Working under the direction of the Chief of Schools, this position provides direct supervision, guidance, and accountability to transformation school principals, ensuring that every school in the network is led with urgency, instructional focus, and a relentless commitment to results. The Assistant Superintendent develops the capacity of principals to improve student outcomes and teacher effectiveness through direct coaching, rigorous accountability, and a comprehensive, strategically designed professional development system. This role also leads the development and implementation of a district-wide leadership development strategy that builds the capacity of principals, assistant principals, and teacher leaders to drive transformation at every level of the school. This position demands a results-driven, outcomes-oriented leader who is committed to developing people, making courageous decisions, and leading meaningful change in complex, high-need school environments.

Required:
Master's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university. Ten (10) years of successful experience in education, including significant experience in high-need or turnaround school settings. A minimum of four (4) years of principal experience with demonstrated results in improving student achievement, closing performance gaps, and building teacher and leadership effectiveness. Multi-year senior-level administrative experience in an educational setting, with demonstrated success leading school improvement, professional development, and leadership development at scale. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Preferred:
Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.

D.) from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field. Experience leading school transformation or turnaround work in a large urban school system characterized by multi-ethnic and cultural diversity. Experience designing and leading comprehensive leadership development systems for principals, assistant principals, and teacher leaders. Licenses, Certifications, and other Requirements
Required:
Valid Georgia Professional Teaching certification in Education. Eligibile for a clear renewable Georgia (GaPSC) Leadership Certification (Tier II) Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Education and Experience Ten (10) years of successful experience in education, preferably including experience in high-need or turnaround school settings. Four (4) years of principal experience with demonstrated results in improving student achievement, closing performance gaps, and building teacher effectiveness. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Duties and Responsibilities Drives continuous school improvement across the transformation network by directly supervising, monitoring, and holding principals accountable for the execution of strategies aligned to district and school improvement priorities. Recruits, selects, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the performance of transformation school principals, ensuring leadership talent is aligned to the demands and expectations of turnaround school environments. Establishes clear, non-negotiable expectations and deadlines for principals related to compliance with district, state, and federal policies, laws, and transformation priorities. Develops principals' capacity to lead instructional improvement, build school culture, and drive student achievement through direct coaching, targeted feedback, structured observation cycles, and differentiated support. Ensures principals establish clearly defined, measurable action steps that are directly aligned to strategic priorities, campus improvement goals, and student achievement targets, and monitors progress toward those goals with consistency and urgency. Monitors school performance data across the transformation network, using results to drive decisions, identify patterns, address performance gaps, and ensure equity of outcomes across all student subgroups. Designs, leads, and continuously improves a comprehensive professional development strategy for principals, assistant principals, and teacher leaders that builds leadership capacity, strengthens instructional practice, and accelerates student achievement across transformation schools. Leads high-quality professional learning experiences for school leaders that are grounded in evidence-based practice, responsive to the specific needs of transformation schools, and connected to measurable outcomes for teachers and students. Builds a coherent leadership development pipeline by providing differentiated support and growth opportunities for principals, assistant principals, and emerging teacher leaders that prepares them to lead effectively in high-need environments. Works collaboratively with the Office of Human Resources to align leadership recruitment, hiring, placement, and evaluation practices to the competencies and expectations of transformation school leadership. Partners with the Office of Professional Learning to ensure that professional development offerings for school leaders and teachers are aligned, coordinated, and designed to build capacity at every level of the school. Supports principals in overseeing the strategic development and distribution of human and financial resources to maximize impact on student outcomes and instructional priorities. Partners with district departments to resolve issues, remove obstacles, and ensure that transformation schools receive the coordinated support needed for principals to lead effectively and achieve results. Corresponds with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to optimize school performance, build strategic partnerships, and advance the district's transformation agenda. Ensures full alignment between transformation school priorities and district-wide academic, operational, and compliance expectations. Represents the Office of School Leadership in district cabinet conversations, advocating for the resources, policies, and systemic supports needed to sustain transformation progress. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of federal, state, and local education laws, including Title I, IDEA, and ADA compliance, and their specific application in turnaround and transformation school contexts. Knowledge of current research and evidence-based school leadership models proven to accelerate student achievement in high-need environments. Knowledge of high-leverage instructional practices, adult learning theory, and effective coaching frameworks that build principal, assistant principal, and teacher leader capacity and drive measurable results. Knowledge of leadership development best practices, including competency-based frameworks, coaching cycles, and differentiated professional learning design for school leaders at all levels. Knowledge of academic intervention strategies and multi-tiered systems of support across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Knowledge of school finance, budgeting, procurement, and human resource management, with the ability to align resources strategically to transformation and professional development priorities. Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, lead complex change, and sustain momentum across a network of turnaround schools. Ability to supervise, coach, and hold principals accountable in ways that are direct, growth-oriented, and grounded in data and evidence. Ability to design and lead high-quality, outcomes-driven professional development experiences for school leaders and teacher leaders that translate directly into improved practice and student results. Ability to make timely, courageous decisions in service of students, even when those decisions are difficult or unpopular. Ability to foster a culture of high expectations, accountability, and continuous improvement across a network of schools and the leaders who serve them. Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with principals, district departments, the Office of Talent and Human Resources, the Office of Professional Learning, families, and community partners in support of the transformation mission. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building trust, driving alignment, and maintaining productive relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and competing priorities. Proficiency with technology platforms, data systems, and software tools used to monitor school performance and support leadership development.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has the right to revise this job description at any time. Incumbents will receive an annual contract, and appropriate pay will be determined based on the assigned pay grade and allowable experience. Work Environment Employees in this classification are normally exposed to a typical office environment. The employee has some control over the length of time sitting, standing, or ambulating. There are occasions that require the lifting or pulling of equipment or supplies, as well as bending, stooping, or stretching. There is frequent use of computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment, which includes reading, listening, writing, or speaking. There are few exceptional physical or sensory demands.
