Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college, offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will join a vibrant educational community and have a desire and ability to serve a population of students with various needs and backgrounds. This is a temporary part-time position with no benefits. This position will provide support to students with disabilities, including conducting intake interviews, reviewing medical documentation, facilitating reasonable accommodations, managing cases, proctoring exams, and supporting student assistive technology needs. This is a part-time temporary position (up to 18 hours per week) from July 15th to December 31st at the Wellesley and Framingham campus. The preferred schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 8am-2pm.Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinates use of various hardware and software related to job duties, including adaptive/assistive technology; Provides support and advising to students with disabilities, including reviewing and evaluating medical documentation, conducting intake interviews, advising students on course selection, and facilitating reasonable accommodations; Assists eligible students with documented disabilities in assistive technology and adaptive equipment to meet their individual needs; Assumes primary responsibility within department for teaching students, staff, and faculty how to use the most up-to-date assistive technology; Converts Accessibility Resources records and documents into effective alternative format media and coordinates process of students requesting alternate-format texts; Converts classroom materials, including tests when necessary, into accessible documents for students with disabilities; Helps coordinate ASL interpreter and CART needs for Accessibility Resources; Provides testing accommodations for students; Collaborates closely and communicates regularly with Director of Accessibility Resources, Director of Academic Achievement Center, IT staff, and with other college staff and faculty; Conducts classes and workshops for students, staff, and faculty on issues of disability in higher education, including universal design; Refers students to appropriate college services (e.g. Peer Tutoring, Reading and Writing Center, Math and Science Center, Counseling, Academic Advising, etc.); Attends and participates in department meetings and professional development; Serves as a point person for closed captioning questions at the College; Other duties as assigned. Master's degree in Special Education, Education Psychology, Counseling, Deaf Education, or closely related field; with 1 year experience and/or training that includes college-level learning disability services, learning disability assessment, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/Section 504 compliance, development of policies/procedures, teaching, or curriculum development; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Preferred Qualifications:
Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action; Experience working in a community college or similar environment; Demonstrated commitment to working with students in need; Experience working in a disability services office and knowledge of best practices in the field of disability services, especially in assistive technology; Ability to work collaboratively with a team; Ability to learn new software and programs.Additional Information:
