Job Description

The Associate Engineer primarily supports current products, new products, sales, production and quality, ensuring products meet customer application requirements, with accurate documentation and configuration. The Associate Engineer creates new engineering drawings, technical specifications, BOM's and updates existing documentation (ECR process) when changes are required. The Associate Engineer also contributes R&D input on innovative ideas for new products and enhancements to existing products to meet customer performance and integration requirements and will support improving and streamlining engineering workflows. A high level of product knowledge, technical engineering capabilities, and an understanding of manufacturing and quality process are required for this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Apply knowledge of general engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes to achieve product design, manufacturing and quality requirements. Interpret customer & marketing input to define technical design requirements for new products. Optimize manufacturing utilizing Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles. Apply working knowledge, and assist in improvement of Quality, ISO and OSHA requirements. Manage the ECM process, communicating inventory/production impacts and phase in of new designs. Maintain product documentation (drawings, specifications, BOMs, procedures). Provide ingenious and resourceful product & component design solutions when supporting the sales team with response to RFQ's. Support design analysis as required and technical input for continual design and data sheets updates. Support and complete assigned R&D efforts in the development of new products. Manage documentation of and provide technical support to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory specifications (ex.: ASME, BPE, FM, UL, CRN's etc.). Work with sales and customers to obtain product requirements. Create and maintain part numbers, BOMs, item descriptions and notes in ERP system (TrulinX). Create 3-D/2-D product documentations using Inventor/AutoCAD and maintain proper storage withing PDM system (Autodesk Vault). Provide purchasing, warehouse and assembly support as needed. Comply with all LJS facility safety requirements, procedures, plans and processes. Maintain company QMS, including inspection processes, logs, and all other associated documentation. Supporting the team with both internal and external ISO audits All other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Required Competencies
  • Solid foundation of understanding in engineering principles and concepts of design
  • Desire to innovate and contribute to new product development and process improvement, continually striving to look for ways all aspects of engineering could be improved or optimized
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high level of accuracy
  • Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective listening skills and ability to respond to technical issues to a variety of audiences, including production, purchasing, sales, management and customers
  • Highly self-motivated and driven with ability to manage priorities and communicate projects and tasks status
  • Strong customer-orientation and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with applications in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Proficiency in 2-D/3-D drawing and model creation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of general design engineering and DFMA principles, FMEA, component manufacturing processes, tooling methodologies, material properties, and quality control methods
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong math and analytical skills
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional team including production, sales, management, purchasing, marketing and production
  • Lead quality management requirements per industry specifications
  • Technical writing ability for protocols, testing results, procedures, product documentation, status & special reports is preferred
  • Experience working with vendors and suppliers is required to improve SCM efforts and resolve quality issues in a timely manner Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science - engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical preferred).
  • 1+ years of experience in engineering focused on design, quality or process management role
  • Specialized product knowledge or industry experience an asset
  • Application and system design or electrical engineering skills or interest is a plus
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
