Provide services as an Automated Cell Technologist in support of the overall functions of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This role will support ongoing, excepted research activities requiring compound management services; complete standard and submitted service and maintenance requests in a timely fashion that prevents loss of government resources; provide reports detailing usage and current inventory amounts of all DEA Controlled Substances per federal requirements; maintain active and stored cell lines in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure viability; and maintain QA/QC of NCATS chemical inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluate new techniques, instruments, and software for potential incorporation into current SOP. Advance the science in the laboratory through new procedures and discoveries. 1 Design and conduct experiments and studies requiring the application of a broad professional knowledge of scientific theories and principles. Oversee a state-of-the-art core facility serving the NIH community; review associated budget. Advance the science through proposing and investigating new target projects for initiation based on novelty and relevance to human health. Work with staff on assay design and method development using an array or experimentation. Review scientific data to determine if a research program can be developed around an idea or data package. Train staff on the proper usage of laboratory instruments and equipment. 2 Operate, troubleshoot and train others to use laboratory equipment and software. Manage scientific equipment and resources (e.g. reagents, stocks of frozen sells, animal samples) including acquisition, documentation and storage. Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts. Coordinates with junior staff to modify research protocols. Work with staff to confirm assay results and evaluate new techniques and instruments; search literature; propose, design and test alternative assays for difficult screening targets; confirm assay results; develop secondary assays. 3 Work with Principal Investigators in scheduling and prioritizing instrument usage. Write papers and abstracts detailing research efforts and results for publication in peer-reviewed journals; prepare PowerPoint presentations as appropriate. Give posters and presentations detailing work at regional and national scientific meetings. Review, edit, and, as needed, write first drafts of papers, posters and manuscripts. 4 Give posters and presentations detailing work at regional and national scientific meetings. Assist the lab staff in the creation and preparation of a variety of documents required by the lab's scientific activities. Produce research reports and regularly communicate results to staff and collaborators. 5 Run Validation and meet with lab members to present updates
Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Biology or similar field of study Experience Maintaining Stock Solutions, Inventory Management, and Data Presentation Experience in SOP writing, Pipetting, Transfections, Cell culture, Primary cell culture, 3D-Cell Culture Skilled in
PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word Preferred Qualifications:
Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
