About the role Responsible for developing complex equipment concepts, and designing, documenting, developing, implementing and sustaining equipment and machines for the production, validation, and inspection of product. This position works under minimal supervision and may provide mentoring and training to others. Responsibilities Develop concepts and detailed designs for mechanical mechanisms that manufacture, inspect and validate products using CAD software Design equipment that has multiple functions and stations that integrate PLCs, servos, motion controllers and actuators using CAD software Design mechanical components for equipment and machines using CAD software. Document components, equipment and machines using CAD programs in accordance with departmental and quality system procedures with the result being the production of machine, equipment and component drawings Design equipment and machines with another senior engineer or manager to support manufacturing Develop equipment in an organized manner by using project schedules, and spread sheets to manage component ordering and/or fabrication needed to assemble and program machine Document maintenance procedures for equipment and machines developed internally or purchased as assigned Debug, troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery in support of production, quality and design engineering groups Assemble, wire, program, install and debug equipment purchased or developed internally Document operating manuals, maintenance procedures for equipment and machines developed internally or purchased as assigned Provide guidance, mentoring and training for technicians Qualifications Skills•
Technical Mechanical Abilities:
Ability to conceptualize complex equipment and machine designs that include multiple mechanical movements in a series of stations
Electrical Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of machine and equipment wiring requirements
Motion Control:
Ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of actuators (pneumatic and electrical), PLCs and servos mechanisms used in machines and equipment. Basic understanding of flow charting and PLC programming
Computer Skills:
Ability to design components and assemblies in a solid modeling CAD program; ability to turn solid models into part and assembly drawings
Organizational Skills:
Ability to organize tasks, components and documentation into clearly understandable structures that can be used to manage tasks, communicate schedules and equipment concepts and train other personnel
Integration of Technology:
Ability to integrate multiple pieces of equipment or stations into a system
Troubleshooting Skills:
Ability to debug and troubleshoot equipment for minor electrical and mechanical problems. This requires a basic understanding of the electrical systems and mechanical functions of the machines so that the source of the issue can be identified Comprehensive understanding of mechanical equipment and processes Exposure and ability to integrate a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (Vision systems, feed systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, pneumatics screwdrivers, etc.) Must understand fabrication drawings, fabricating methods, practices and their limitations Must have knowledge of and be able to use mechanical and electrical tools: calipers, micrometers, voltmeters and oscilloscopes.
