AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN II PAY GROUP

10 City of Seguin Pay Schedules

SUMMARY OF POSITION

: Ensures the city's vehicles and equipment are maintained in good working condition. Involves repairing and maintaining mechani­cal and automotive equipment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

: Essential Duties

• Performs tune-ups, oil changes, battery checks, tire and lubrication checks, and other preven­tive maintenance on city automotive and mechanical equipment; Test drives vehicles and equipment; Diagnoses engine and mechanical problems using a diagnostic scanner; Assists in maintaining detailed vehicle maintenance records; Repairs clutches and brakes on city vehicles and equipment; Removes engines and transmissions for repair; General knowledge of removal and repair of rear axle assemblies, gears or replacement.

General knowledge of large equipment to include diesel engine repair and maintenance. Must provide own set of tools (full set); May be subject to after hour calls; Other Important Duties

• May perform some welding work and acetylene cutting; May operate other city vehicles as well as equipment (pick-up and delivery); May attend educational seminars; and Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

: Thorough knowledge of: auto mechanics and the operation and repair of small and heavy equip­ment.

General knowledge of:

all automotive repair (water pumps, alternators, power steering pumps, air brakes etc.) and removal and repair of rear ends; Physical Ability to: lift and maneuver up to 80 lbs. (i.e. battery, bucket, etc.) and ascend and descend 30" high steps numerous times per day.

Ability to:

operate heavy equipment (pick-up and delivery); repair hydraulic sys­tems, engines, and heavy equip­ment; read wiring diagrams; diagnose minor mechanical problems as well as repair vehicles; work with a variety of hand and power tools; establish and maintain coopera­tive working relation­ships with co-workers and other departments' personnel; and maintain Texas driver's license (applicable to job responsibilities) and good driving record.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus training as a mechanic, and at least four years of experience in automotive repair; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the re­quired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

: State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver's license (obtainable within one year). For full job description click on the attachment
