Job Title:
Avionics Technician Job Description The Avionics Technician performs C-checks and heavy checks on Dash-8 aircraft, focusing on the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of electronic and avionics systems. This role involves hands-on work with wiring, harness fabrication, and avionics equipment to ensure aircraft systems operate safely, reliably, and in full compliance with engineering standards. Responsibilities Perform C-checks and heavy maintenance checks on Dash-8 aircraft with a focus on avionics systems. Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and perform both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on avionics systems in a high-quality and efficient manner. Install, maintain, and repair electronic and avionics systems, including navigational systems, radar technology, radio communication systems, flight control tools, and other aircraft electronic systems. Troubleshoot and test instruments, components, and assemblies using tools such as circuit testers, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and other diagnostic equipment. Perform operational and functional checks on aircraft electrical systems and equipment to verify proper performance and safety. Install, route, upgrade, and repair wire harnesses in accordance with wiring standards and engineering documentation. Fabricate, assemble, and install wire harnesses, including wire stripping, crimping, basic soldering, and harness build-up. Install avionics equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, ensuring all wiring and connections meet required standards. Use work cards and production schedules to complete assigned tasks within designated time frames. Maintain and use personal tools appropriately to perform daily avionics and electrical maintenance tasks. Document work performed in accordance with maintenance procedures and regulatory requirements, as applicable. Collaborate with other maintenance and modification personnel to support heavy maintenance and modification projects in an MRO environment. Essential Skills Minimum of 4+ years of avionics experience in modification or heavy maintenance. Strong avionics troubleshooting skills, including systems checks and fault isolation. Hands-on experience with avionics installation, maintenance, and repair on aircraft. Proficiency in wire harness fabrication and installation, including wire stripping, crimping, and basic soldering. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and wiring diagrams for avionics installations. Experience working with avionics systems such as navigation, radar, radio communication, and flight control systems. Ability to use diagnostic tools such as circuit testers, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and related test equipment. Must be eligible for a Secret clearance. Must provide and maintain own tools suitable for avionics maintenance work. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, efficient work in a maintenance environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications A&P license or A license preferred. Experience working in a heavy maintenance or MRO environment on regional or similar aircraft. Background in C-checks, heavy checks, or major avionics modifications on aircraft. Ability to work from work cards and production schedules to meet defined timelines. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a maintenance team. Solid understanding of aircraft electrical systems and standard wiring practices. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in a hangar-based MRO environment focused on heavy maintenance and modification projects. The role involves working directly on aircraft in a production setting, following work cards and production schedules to complete tasks within designated time frames. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The environment is hands-on and tool-intensive, requiring regular use of avionics test equipment and personal tools while working around active maintenance operations in a structured, safety-conscious facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Bridgewater, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $50.00/hr.
