Back-Up Yard Driver

We are seeking a dependable, safety-focused Back-Up Yard Driver to support both yard operations and warehouse activities . This hybrid role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day, works well in a fast-paced environment, and is comfortable working both outdoors and inside the facility. You will spend about half of your time moving trailers in the yard and the rest assisting with warehouse operations, helping keep freight moving safely and efficiently. Preferred Experience 1+ year of yard hostling, switcher, or local driving experience in a logistics, transportation, or distribution environment Experience working with dry van trailers and yard management systems Strong trailer backing skills, especially in tight dock spaces Forklift or warehouse experience is a plus Benefits / Perks Consistent Monday-Friday schedule: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Opportunity to build experience in both driving and warehouse operations Stable role with a team that values safety, reliability, and flexibility Ongoing training in DOT, OSHA, and company safety procedures Varied work environment with a mix of outdoor and indoor responsibilities Key Responsibilities Operate a yard tractor, hostler, or terminal truck to move trailers safely within the yard and between loading and unloading docks Spot trailers accurately and efficiently based on direction from yard management or dock personnel Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report equipment issues, defects, or safety concerns Maintain clear communication with dispatch, warehouse teams, and drivers using radios or handheld devices Ensure trailers are properly secured and positioned according to safety and operational standards Complete logs, trailer movement records, and yard inventory reports accurately Support warehouse operations, including: Forklift operation Dock work RPC sorting Provide backup coverage when needed, including occasional weekend support Follow all company policies, DOT regulations , and OSHA safety standards Assist yard and dock teams as needed to support efficient daily operations Qualifications Valid Class A CDL At least 21 years old Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3 years Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and physical assessment Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and climb in and out of equipment throughout the shift Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs as needed Comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow Flexible to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays based on business needs Ready to take the next step in your driving career?
