Job Description
Summary Deer River High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to lead our music program as a Band Director . This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to inspire and educate students in the art of music performance, composition, and appreciation. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of various musical styles, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all students. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that aligns with educational standards and promotes student engagement and skill development. Conduct daily rehearsals, ensuring effective instruction in music theory, instrumental technique, and ensemble performance. Organize and direct various performances, including concerts, competitions, and community events, showcasing student talent and fostering school spirit. Collaborate with other music educators and school staff to create interdisciplinary opportunities and enhance the overall music program. Assess student progress through regular evaluations and provide constructive feedback to support their growth as musicians. Recruit and retain students in the band program, promoting participation and enthusiasm for music education. Foster a safe and respectful learning environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and individual expression among students. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field. Valid teaching certification in Music Education. Proven experience in conducting and teaching instrumental music at the high school level. Strong proficiency in at least one musical instrument, with a broad understanding of various instruments and their roles in a band setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students, parents, and the community. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. A commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the music program. Knowledge of current music education practices and technology integration in the classroom. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for performances and events.
