This is advanced professional employee benefits work with supervisory responsibility for the central Human Resources Department. An employee in this class is responsible for management and administration of a variety of employee benefit programs for County employees. Responsibilities include analyzing existing benefit program data and developing recommendations for improvements in operation, establishing effective communications with departmental personnel representatives, officials of provider companies and public organizations, and planning, assigning, and reviewing the work of subordinates to assure County compliance with state, local and federal regulations and benefit plan documents. The Benefits Supervisor is responsible for performing specialized, professional duties of considerable difficulty in administering the County's Employee Benefits Programs for active employees, and their eligible family members, and retirees and their eligible family members, as may be assigned. These programs include retirement administration, Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution, Deferred Compensation, multiple self-insured and fully insured health, welfare, and voluntary benefit programs. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and professional knowledge in the administration of various employee benefit programs and serves as a subject matter expert on technology-related initiatives related to our benefit systems. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional and clerical employees who assist with various phases of employee benefit plans and programs. General supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work through personal conferences and written reports and holds the incumbent responsible for effective benefits administration. About Miami-Dade County Miami-Dade County (MDC) is the largest county in Florida with approximately 2.7 million residents, renowned for its vibrant culture and economic dynamism. MDC has operated since 1957 under a unique metropolitan system of government known as a "two-tier federation" with a strong Mayor and a 13 Board of County Commissioners. The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is the legislative body, consisting of 13 members elected from single-member districts. Members are elected and serve one four-year term and may serve up to two consecutive four-year terms. The Commission chooses a chairperson who presides over the BCC and appoints the members of legislative committees. In January 2025, the Miami-Dade County transitioned to include five Constitutional Offices with elected leaders including Sheriff, Clerk of Court and Comptroller, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections.
