Bilingual Paraprofessional at Bret Harte Union High School District Print Application Deadline Until Filled Date Posted 5/18/2026 Contact Lenyn Barajas Number of Openings 1 Salary Pay dependent on experience Add'l Salary Info Starting $23.62/hr. to DOE; Annual medical cap: $13,394.00, option to op-out of medical cap or get 75% of the annual medical cap. Length of Work Year 184 days - 6.5 hrs/day Employment Type Part Time Job Summary Job Summary Supervised by the Classroom Teacher and directly responsible to the School Site Principal, the Bilingual Paraprofessional will perform specialized clerical tasks in classroom matters, provide instructional assistance to the teacher and work directly with students in the classroom.
TYPICAL DUTIES 1.
Assist teacher(s) with classroom instruction. 2. Assist teacher(s) with grading and correcting of student work. 3. Assist teacher(s) in the preparation of materials to be used in the classroom. 4. Assist in the supervision of students. 5. Assist in the operation of various audio-visual equipment such as projectors and other learning machines. 6. Assist students with one-on-one instruction. 7. Assist students in small group instruction. 8. Assist students in the use of computers. 9. Assist students in their home language. 10. Administer the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) exam. 11. Help translate IEP's, SST's, and 504's for teachers, students, staff, and parents. 12. Translate letters that are sent to parents in Spanish. 13. Update and file Cum folders for EL students.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma. Knowledge of computer and operation of same. Passing score on a selected foreign language proficiency test. Passing score on Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Paraprofessional proficiency test (or equivalent test) or possess an Associate of Arts (AA) Degree or higher or have completed 48 college units.
Experience:
Experience working with youth and light clerical work desirable but not required.
ABILITY TO
  • General knowledge of computers.
  • Operate AV equipment.
  • Maintain records.
  • Work independently.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Have proficiency in a foreign language required for the selected student population.

SCHOOL FACILITIES AND SAFETY
During a WASC Parent Survey, most parents indicated Bret Harte High is "safe, a good place to learn and a pleasant place to be." To safeguard the well-being of students and staff, a Comprehensive School Safety Plan has been developed by the Safety Committee, which meets regularly and consists of teachers, parents, administrators and local law enforcement. The facilities cover 20 acres of land, with 44 academic classrooms including a two-story classroom with 4 State of the Art Science classrooms and 5 standard classrooms, one computer lab, a laptop cart in every classroom, an agriculture shop, greenhouse, and an agriculture science center, a home economics laboratory, a woodshop, auto shop and electronics area, a learning and career center, a music facility with piano lab and practice rooms, a performing arts theater, a multi-purpose room, two gymnasiums with shower facilities, a football field, two baseball fields, and an all-weather track. A joint-use sports complex is located on land adjacent to the campus and includes an aquatic center, outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, classroom/restroom facility and student parking.
