This role ensures all sample processing activities are executed accurately and in accordance with SOPs while building a high-performing team that delivers on customer commitments and business objectives.
The incumbent will:
Act as a leader of people, fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous development Take ownership of site performance, including operational metrics, business forecasts, and financial outcomes Drive continuous improvement (ABS - Azenta Business System) initiatives to optimize efficiency, quality, and customer experience Build strong relationships internally and externally to ensure alignment with company strategy What You'll Do Operational & Business Ownership Own and deliver site business performance, including productivity, cost management, and operational KPIs Develop, manage, and execute business forecasts and resource planning to meet demand and financial targets Monitor performance trends and proactively implement corrective actions to ensure goals are met or exceeded Ensure alignment between site operations and overall business strategy Leadership & People Management Lead, coach, and develop a team by setting clear expectations and holding individuals accountable for results Demonstrate the ability to lead through crucial conversations, including performance feedback, conflict resolution, and change management Build a culture of trust, inclusion, and engagement while maintaining high performance standards Serve as a visible and approachable leader, fostering open communication and employee ownership Talent Acquisition & Development Own the hiring strategy and execution for the site, ensuring selection of high-quality, competency-based talent Drive effective onboarding to accelerate time-to-productivity Develop and execute talent development plans, including coaching, mentoring, and career pathing Identify and cultivate future leaders and critical skill capabilities within the team Continuously assess team capabilities and ensure the right people are in the right roles Continuous Improvement (ABS) Lead and champion Azenta Business System (ABS) initiatives across the site Identify, prioritize, and execute continuous improvement projects that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost Build team capability in problem-solving, root cause analysis, and process optimization Establish a culture of data-driven decision making and operational excellence Customer & Stakeholder Focus Maintain strong relationships with clients and act as the primary escalation point Ensure customer expectations are consistently met or exceeded Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve issues and deliver solutions Operational Execution Manage day-to-day site operations including lab processes, facilities, staffing, and vendor relationships Ensure compliance with quality systems and regulatory requirements Enforces SOPs, quality systems, and regulatory requirements Oversee sample lifecycle processes including accessioning, storage, and tracking Drive resolution of operational, quality, and service issues Your Management Responsibilities Hiring & Staffing Skills assessment Resource planning Competency based, quality hiring Effective on-boarding Customer Focus Meet or exceed customer expectations Respond to customer inquiries with urgency Ensure key performance and quality indicators are met Collaboration Constructive conflict Appropriate follow-up Holds self and others accountable Builds relationships & partners across functions Considers and communicates cross-functionally Communication to Inspire & Empower Regular meaningful communications Connection of department & individual purpose to strategic direction Follow-up to address obstacles Performance Management Reinforce behaviors that drive results Assess -right person in the right job Feedback/coaching Raising the bar; increasing contribution Address misaligned or misplaced talent Develop People Dialogue about skills & behaviors for success at Azenta Understanding employee aspirations Opportunities for experiential learning & growth Experience planning & delegate to develop What You Will Bring Bachelor's degree with demonstrated people leadership experience (minimum 2+ years leading teams) Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop employees, including managing performance and navigating difficult conversations Experience owning or contributing to business forecasting, workforce planning, and operational performance metrics Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, or ABS preferred) Experience hiring, onboarding, and developing high-performing teams Experience in a regulated life sciences environment preferred (CLIA, CAP, GMP, GTP, GLP, BoP) Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills Ability to manage complexity, prioritize effectively, and drive results Physical Requirements Reaching/lifting/bending Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Extended periods of standing or sitting Right- and left-hand finger dexterity Ability to discern colors or use of color correction glasses Ability to work with refrigerants (e.g., dry ice and LN2) using proper

United States Base Compensation:
$96,000.00 - $120,000.00 The posted pay range for this position is an estimate based on current market data and internal pay structure. Final compensation may vary above or below this range depending on factors such as experience, education (including licensure and certifications), qualifications, performance, and geographic location, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
