  • Dixie Railcar Services Full-Time | Railcar RepairMaintenance Position Summary The Blaster is responsible for preparing railcar surfaces for repair, coating, and inspection by using industrial blasting equipment to remove rust, old coatings, scale, and contaminants.
This role supports the overall repair process by ensuring railcars meet
AAR , FRA
, and company quality standards before painting or structural work. Key Responsibilities Operate sandblasting or media blasting equipment to clean and prepare railcar surfaces. Remove rust, paint, corrosion, and debris from interior and exterior railcar components. Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure proper cleanliness and profile. Set up blasting areas, including hoses, nozzles, media pots, and containment systems. Follow all safety procedures , including PPE requirements for respiratory protection. Assist with surface prep , masking, and staging railcars for coating or repair. Maintain blasting equipment, replace worn nozzles, hoses, and filters as needed. Work in compliance with AAR standards , environmental regulations, and company policies. Complete required documentation and communicate any defects or structural concerns. Required SkillsQualifications Experience with industrial blasting , sandblasting, or surface preparation preferred. Ability to work in confined spaces , elevated areas, and dusty environments. Strong understanding of PPE , including respirators, blast suits, and hearing protection. Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues. Ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work outdoors in all weather. Must pass pre-employment drugalcohol screening , background check, and employment verification. Work Environment Industrial rail yard or shop setting. Exposure to dust, noise, abrasive media, and weather conditions. Work may include 10-hour shifts , weekends, and overtime depending on workload.
