Summary:
Essential role of a blood draw technician involves supporting in executing various assigned tasks, problem solving, training and suggesting process improvements.
Position Responsibilities:
Proficient in blood specimen collection, specimen labeling, specimen centrifuging, record keeping, equipment maintenance and decontamination, updating patient records, etc. Accurately collects and stores specimens following established procedures. Clearly explains the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures to patients. Demonstrates proper techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Has full understanding of physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes, labels specimens, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as per test order requirements. Checks test requisitions against scripts for accuracy. Packages specimens for transportation. Stores specimen samples at required temperatures, places them in appropriate containers, labels accurately, and follows transport procedures to maintain specimen integrity. Ads to OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual departmental trainings. Answers phone calls, reads laboratory results to address inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment. At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GEDMinimum 2 years of experience required
