- Full-time Job Summary Tampa Bay Bottling is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Blow Mold Operator to join our manufacturing team.
Position Summary:
The Plastic Blow Molding Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and optimizing stretch blow molding (SBM) equipment to produce high-quality plastic containers (PET bottles) in compliance with production, quality, and food safety standards. This role ensures efficient machine performance, performs preventative maintenance, and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.Responsibilities:
1. Machine Operation & Setup- Operate and monitor blow molding machines (e.g., Sidel, Krones, or similar SBM systems).
- Perform line startup, shutdown, and changeovers based on production schedules.
- Set and adjust machine parameters including: o Oven temperature profiles o Preform heating zones o Stretch rod timing o Blow pressures (P1 / P2)
- Ensure proper preform loading and material handling. 2. Process Control & Optimization
- Continuously monitor machine performance and bottle quality.
- Adjust process parameters to maintain: o Bottle weight distribution o Wall thickness consistency o Proper bottle formation and clarity
- Minimize scrap, rework, and downtime.
- Support OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) targets 3. Quality Assurance & Testing
- Perform routine quality checks including: o Visual inspection (defects, clarity, contamination) o Top load testing o Burst testing o Section weight analysis
- Identify and correct defects such as: o Short shots o Pearlescence o Thin walls o Deformed bottles
- Ensure compliance with product specifications and customer requirements. 4. Preventative Maintenance (PM)
- Perform routine maintenance including: o Cleaning molds, ovens, and machine components o Inspecting blow nozzles, molds, and seals o Replacing filters and lubricating moving parts
- Report equipment issues and assist maintenance team with repairs. 5. Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and process-related issues.
- Identify root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
- Respond quickly to alarms and minimize production interruptions. 6. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
- Maintain compliance with: o GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) o HACCP / Food Safety requirements o Company SOPs and policies
- Ensure proper use of PPE at all times. 7. Documentation & Reporting
- Complete production and quality records accurately and in real time.
- Record downtime, defects, and corrective actions.
- Communicate issues and shift performance to supervisors. 8. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Technical certification in plastics, manufacturing, or related field preferred
Experience:
- 2-5 years of experience in blow molding or plastics manufacturing preferred
- Experience with PET stretch blow molding strongly preferred
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of blow molding processes and equipment
- Understanding of heating profiles and air pressure systems
- Ability to read and interpret machine parameters and technical manuals
- Familiarity with quality testing equipment

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (heat, noise, moving equipment)
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing plant environment with rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, and overtime as needed) Performance Metrics (KPIs):
