Since 2009, we have helped homeowners, businesses, municipalities, government agencies and other organizations throughout Maine access renewable energy solutions that are practical, reliable, and built to last.

About the Role We are seeking Bookkeeper to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the company while helping improve the systems, reporting, and processes that support a growing organization. This role goes beyond traditional bookkeeping. The right person will serve as a trusted stakeholder in the business to ownership—bringing strong accounting fundamentals, operational awareness, and a proactive mindset toward improving financial visibility and organizational efficiency. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, and contributing meaningfully to a growing Maine-based company. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & Accounting Lead the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping functions of the business, ensuring financial accuracy, organization, and timely reporting. Responsibilities include accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, treasury management, cash flow tracking, monthly close activities, and maintaining accurate financial records across multiple entities. Support quarterly financial reporting, year-end close processes, and coordination with third-party CPA partners to ensure accurate tax preparation and compliance. Payroll, Benefits & Employee Administration Manage biweekly payroll and related reporting, including commissions, bonuses, PTO tracking, payroll tax filings, workers' compensation reporting, W-2s, and 1099s. Support employee onboarding, benefits administration, payroll system maintenance. Financial Visibility, Controls & Business Support Help strengthen the financial foundation of a growing company by maintaining disciplined reporting processes, improving systems, and establishing meaningful metrics that support business decision-making. Partner closely with ownership to improve financial visibility, support planning and budgeting efforts, and maintain strong internal controls and accountability. Compliance & Audit Coordination Coordinate insurance, workers' compensation, payroll, and financial audits while ensuring accurate sales tax filings, organized documentation, and ongoing compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. Cross-Functional Operations Support Develop familiarity with purchasing, inventory, and operational workflows to provide occasional support and future business continuity as the company grows. What Success Looks Like in This Role Deliver timely, accurate, and dependable financial reporting that ownership can trust for decision-making Ensure payroll, benefits, and employee administration operate smoothly and consistently Bring a high level of accountability, organization, and attention to detail to day-to-day financial operations Take ownership of responsibilities while working independently and proactively with minimal oversight Help improve systems, reporting, and operational processes to support company growth and efficiency Contribute to stronger financial visibility, internal controls, and accountability across the organization Be motivated by helping a growing business succeed and willing to grow alongside the company over time Work collaboratively with ownership and teammates to solve problems and support business operations Bring a process-minded approach , helping create structure and improve workflows as the company evolves Ideal Qualifications Degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, Business, or equivalent experience 5+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or controller-level experience preferred Strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll, tax reporting, and financial statements Experience with job costing or project-based businesses strongly preferred High proficiency in QuickBooks and accounting software Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to create and improve systems and processes Comfortable balancing detailed bookkeeping with higher-level financial thinking Ability to work independently while partnering closely with ownership Bonus Experience Experience in construction, electrical, HVAC, solar, or project-based industries Familiarity with inventory or purchasing systems Safety Coordination and Training HR recordkeeping to ensure a smooth employee experience and accurate administration.
