Position Summary:
The Bookkeeper/Operations Associate plays a vital role in supporting the financial strength and day-to-day operations of Tom Balding Bits & Spurs. This position ensures disciplined financial stewardship while also supporting the practical needs of a hands-on manufacturing environment rooted in craftsmanship. In a small business setting, this role goes beyond traditional bookkeeping responsibilities. Along with core accounting functions assists with ordering materials, coordinating inventory, supporting customer order processing, and helping ensure the office and shop run smoothly during busy production periods. By providing clear and practical financial insight, this role supports leadership in balancing quality, customer commitment, production costs, and long-term sustainability within a company built on precision and pride in workmanship.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including invoicing and collections
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and profit & loss reports
  • Monitor cost of goods, margins, and production-related expenses
  • Identify trends and variances and communicate practical insights to support decision-making Operations & Inventory Support
  • Order parts and supplies for production and daily operations
  • Monitor inventory levels in coordination with the production team
  • Track material costs to support responsible pricing and margins
  • Assist with order processing, shipping, and administrative needs during peak periods
  • Support front-office, including answering phones and assisting customers in the gift shop Budgeting & Business Insight
  • Assist in maintaining the annual operating budget
  • Track performance against budget and support cash flow monitoring
  • Provide financial input to inform pricing and purchasing decisions Payroll & Compliance
  • Collect, verify, and process bi-weekly payroll
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with applicable regulations Community Engagement
  • Track charitable giving and donation requests in alignment with company values
  • Maintain documentation of community contributions
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Technical Foundation
  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field OR equivalent progressive bookkeeping experience
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting support experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly financial reporting
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles (debits/credits, accrual vs. cash basis, reconciliations) Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar platform)
  • Experience preparing monthly profit & loss and balance sheet reports
  • Experience reconciling bank and credit card statements
  • Payroll processing experience and knowledge of applicable compliance requirements
  • Strong Excel skills (budget tracking, basic formulas) Personal & Operational Competencies

Job Type:

$55,000.00
