JOB SUMMARY
The Branch Manager is responsible for directing the operations of a bank branch, ensuring compliance with bank policies and procedures including branch security and regulatory compliance, serving as the primary in-branch leader for consumer lending, small business lending (generally $150,000 or less), branch marketing efforts, managing incoming deposit origination efforts, and recruiting and training employees. The Branch Manager is responsible for the financial and operational success of the branch. This role requires strong leadership with a focus on managing employee growth and development and attention to customer service excellence.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Branch Operations/Branch Operations Management. Oversee daily branch operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with bank policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Manage the financial performance of the branch by executing strategies to achieve goals and cost saving initiatives to ensure financial metrics are achieved. Monitor the branch's currency and coin position ensuring amounts meet seasonal needs and ensuring compliance with the Bank's policy to keep currency at a reasonable minimum. Oversee process for new deposit and consumer loan account openings, teller transactions, and safe deposit box management. Resolve exceptions originated in the branch in a timely manner including general ledger reconciling differences, teller transaction issues, consumer loan and other account exceptions. Diagnose and develop action plans to address branch inefficiencies. Make and timely facilitate NSF decisions per policies and procedures. Sales and Service. Monitor branch performance against established goals and objectives and implement corrective actions as needed to ensure goals are achieved. Foster a sales culture to promote and sell bank products to attract new and retain existing customers and grow deposits. Handle customer service requests including safe deposit transactions and loan applications. Ensure exceptional customer service and satisfaction. Resolve customer complaints in a timely and professional manner. Support change innovations including new product, services, and procedure rollouts. Audits & Branch Security. Serve as the branch's Assistant Security Officer ensuring compliance with the Bank's Security Policy. Act as a member of the Security Committee and attend all security meetings. Provide critical feedback and make recommendations on security practices. Ensure that all local branch security devices are operating as intended. Establish, document, train, and enforce internal control policies within the branch. Stay current on applicable banking regulations and security procedures and practices to prevent fraud or other bank losses. Remain current with regulatory changes and ensure branch procedures remain compliant with all applicable requirements . Act as primary liaison to internal auditors during branch audits. Partner with the Personal Banker and Head Teller to ensure timely completion of branch audits. Partner with the Personal Banker and Head Teller to ensure timely completion of trackers per policies and procedures. Marketing and Community Involvement. Represent the branch in relationships with customers, community organizations, and business partners. Maintain a visible community presence, participating in select local events or relationships that support branch awareness as requested while remaining physically in the branch. Lead the marketing efforts including updating in-branch merchandising, displaying gifts with new deposits, and signage that promotes rates or service-led bank product offerings. Branch Leadership, Staffing, and Team Management. Oversee and provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to branch personnel fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement Make hiring decisions to ensure adequate staffing consistent with the budget and in collaboration with the Managing Director of Retail Banking the Retail Operations Manager, and Human Resources. Promote a network with internal departments and develop partnerships with other lines of business such as treasury management. Create and maintain a professional workplace. Support branch retail team career progression by utilizing and providing employee assessments and providing coaching, mentoring, training, and constructive feedback and direction. Train, supervise, and delegate assignments to branch retail team members, holding them accountable through coaching, constructive criticism, assessment, and disciplinary action when required by establishing clearly defined responsibilities and performance expectations while assuring full compliance with all policies and procedures. Create and manage work schedules for retail branch team, including but not limited to approving or denying requests for time off from work, Paid Time Off in Paylocity, etc. Ensure the Head Teller conducts and allocates weekly training sessions to prepare branch retail team for career progression. Timely set performance goals for Personal Banker II, Personal Banker I, and Head Teller and partner with Head Teller to timely establish, set, and monitor goals for their direct reports. Ensure timely completion of annual performance reviews for branch employees and recommend appropriate personnel and/or disciplinary action to the Managing Director of Retail Banking and Human Resources. Timely complete 90-Day Evaluations and Annual Performance Review for direct reports. Support and ensure the Head Teller timely completes 90- Day Evaluations and Annual Performance Reviews for their direct reports. Satisfactorily perform Retail Banking responsibilities as needed and required for the branch. Conduct regular sales and operations meetings with branch personnel giving timely feedback on issues as they arise. Maintain cohesive, highly trained, and motivated branch personnel to meet daily branch demands. Consumer Lending and Small Business Lending. Serve as the primary in-branch lender for consumer lending and small business lending (generally $150,000 or less) intake, underwriting, accepting loan applications from customers, and branch referral. Refer all loans generally over $150,000 to the Regional President. Ensure all consumer lending and small business lending activities adhere to bank policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and disclosure standards. Review consumer loan applications for completeness, accuracy, and required documentation in accordance with bank policies and procedures. Timely and accurately input and process consumer loan applications and small business loan applications through the bank's approved underwriting system and monitor application status through decisioning. Communicate loan decisions to customers once underwriting review is completed and coordinate follow-up items or conditions as needed. Monitor, research, and resolve loan exceptions to ensure compliance with bank policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Maintain accountability for branch-level lending quality, documentation, and audit readiness. Monitor branch lending activity to support growth objectives while maintaining credit discipline and compliance standards. Control past due and charged-off accounts for the branch. Participate in oversight activities with corporate credit functions to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Monitor and manage the branch's financial performance. General. Recognize red flags, scams, fraud, phishing, etc. Perform responsibilities during Bank hours by being physically present in the bank an average of 40 hours each week based on business needs. Travel between branches as needed. Performance of other responsibilities as assigned by management. Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
3-5 years of bank experience and 2+ years of management experience. Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, qualifying motor vehicle record report, and reliable transportation. Experience with developing branch staff and team members through guidance, training, support, and constructive feedback. Proven track record in managing, leading, delegating, and training branch staff and team members effectively, inspiring them to meet business objectives. Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with co-workers, customers and management. Strong commitment to holding oneself, branch staff, and individual team members accountable for completing tasks, achieving results, and upholding standards. Lead with integrity, transparency, and adherence to ethical standards and business practices. Maintain confidentiality. High level of professionalism and integrity. Flexible, adaptable, and willing to continuously learn. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Excellent leadership skills.
