Job Description

Overview The Breakfast Server is a key member of the Main Dining Room team at The Highlands at Harbor Springs, responsible for delivering warm, attentive, and polished service to resort guests during the morning dining experience. This role embodies the relaxed yet refined atmosphere of our Main Dining Room, where guests begin their day overlooking the natural beauty of the Harbor Springs region before heading out to enjoy our championship golf courses or resort amenities. The ideal candidate is a friendly, detail-oriented professional who takes pride in creating memorable guest experiences through genuine hospitality, product knowledge, and consistent service execution.

  • Greet and seat guests warmly, creating a welcoming atmosphere consistent with The Highlands brand standards
  • Present menus, describe daily specials, and make informed recommendations on breakfast items, beverages, and coffee selections
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately, communicating special requests and dietary needs to kitchen staff
  • Deliver food and beverage orders in a timely, professional manner with attention to proper plate placement and presentation
  • Monitor and anticipate guest needs throughout the dining experience, proactively refilling beverages and addressing any concerns
  • Resolve guest feedback with professionalism and urgency; escalate to management when appropriate Service Operations
  • Perform all pre-service opening duties including table setup, linen placement, silverware polishing, and condiment stocking
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the breakfast menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and common allergens
  • Accurately process guest checks using the Point of Sale (POS) system; credit card, and resort charge transactions
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, bussers, and fellow servers to ensure seamless service flow
  • Follow all ServSafe and responsible alcohol service guidelines when serving morning beverages including mimosas, Bloody Marys, and other alcoholic offerings
  • Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and health code standards as required by the State of Michigan and Boyne Resorts policies Post-Service & Side Work
  • Complete assigned side work and closing duties, including dining room breakdown, restocking, and cleaning
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dining room, server stations, and beverage areas throughout the shift
  • Properly handle, store, and label perishables and supplies in compliance with food safety standards
  • Participate in pre-shift staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 1 year of food service or hospitality experience preferred; on-the-job training available for motivated candidates
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to serve alcohol in accordance with Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) regulations
  • ServSafe certification required, or willingness to obtain prior to first shift
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
  • Basic math skills for accurat check processing
  • Reliable transportation to the resort property Preferred
  • Prior experience in a resort, hotel, or upscale dining environment
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems
  • Genuine interest in providing exceptional guest experiences in a scenic, resort-style setting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires regular physical activity in a fast-paced environment.
Candidates must be able to:
  • Stand and walk for the duration of shifts, typically 4-8 hours
  • Carry trays and service items weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Bend, reach, and move through tight dining spaces with ease
  • Work in varying temperatures, including proximity to kitchen equipment
Qualifications:
