Job Description

Job Overview The SEK Multi-County Health Department is seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to serve as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (BFPC) , with the potential to expand into Home Visiting services as programs grow. This position provides support and education to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers enrolled in WIC, helping them successfully meet their breastfeeding goals. This role may evolve to include home visiting services, offering additional support to families across our service area. Duties Provide breastfeeding education and support to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers via phone, clinic visits, home visits, and hospital visits Maintain regular contact with assigned clients and manage a caseload Benefits of breastfeeding Overcoming common challenges Getting started and maintaining breastfeeding Provide emotional support to mothers and their families Share information within scope of training regarding lactation, including general guidance on foods, medications, and common concerns Document all client interactions accurately in the KWIC system Maintain strict client confidentiality Refer clients to appropriate healthcare professionals or lactation experts when needed Assist with prenatal classes, breastfeeding support groups, and WIC breast pump program Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education opportunities Support outreach and promotion of breastfeeding services as assigned Qualifications Must be a woman who has successfully breastfed for at least 6 months High school diploma or equivalent required (no college degree required) Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the service area Additional Opportunity As our programs expand, this position may transition to include Home Visiting services , providing education and support to families in their homes.
