About The Team The Collections Officer 2 is responsible for managing delinquent accounts, primarily those 60 to 100 days past due, through collection activity, skip-tracing, member contact, and account resolution efforts. The role works with members to provide payment options and solutions while following Credit Union policies, confidentiality requirements, and applicable collection regulations. This position also supports collateral recovery activities, including repossessions, voluntary surrenders, reinstatements, lien sale notices, and coordination with outside vendors.
Schedule:
8AM to 5PM (Mon -Wed) 9AM-6PM (Rotating Th-F) This position is fully on site and will require travel to Ventura, CA. What You'll Do Performs delinquency control and collection activity including skip-tracing for accounts in all portfolios that are 60+ days past due. Accounts include unsecured loans as well as those secured by collateral such as automobiles, RV's, boats, motorcycles, trailers, etc. Handles voluntary repossessions and reinstatements of repossessed collateral with members and is a knowledgeable resource to branch offices. Uses sound judgement to approve additional repo fees and extend fees for members during reinstatement process, as necessary. Assists Collections Manager in timely monitoring of Lien Sale Notices and Notices of Stored Vehicles to ensure that the Credit Union's collateral is not sold. Assists other Collection Officers and outside collection vendor with timely and effective collection of accounts that are past due as well as Negative Shares. Contacts members to discuss delinquent accounts and provide options and solutions within established authority limits and Credit Union policy. Responds to daily emails and incoming calls in a timely manner from members who need assistance with payment processing, extension requests, modification requests, payment requests, insurance questions, and voluntary surrenders. Handles telephone calls via a telephone queue and mail communication related to delinquent activity. Acts as a liaison to VCCU staff for collection issues as needed. Resolves collateral protection insurance issues, resolves misapplied payments, and handles inquiries for payoffs and inquiries on charged off accounts. Works with collection vendor to assist members with payment transfers, late fee issues, misapplied payments, insurance questions, non-sufficient fund checks, and waivers of fees as appropriate. Works with Consumer Loan Servicing Department with letters of Guaranty, GAP, and other products and services related to delinquent loans. Recommends re-age requests, loan modifications, and extension requests to the Collections Manager for review and approval. Provides overrides to tellers for transactions as appropriate. What We're Seeking Minimum of three years of related collections experience, preferably in a financial institution required. Including communicating with members regarding delinquent accounts, payment arrangements, loan modifications, and charge-off account inquiries. Working knowledge of all federal and state rules and regulations governing the collection of past due accounts, including but not limited to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Personal computer skills required with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, with an emphasis on Word and Excel. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required or equivalent combination of education or directly related experience required. What Will Make You Stand Out Knowledge of credit union products, consumer loan servicing, GAP, collateral protection insurance, NSF items, and negative share accounts preferred. Experience collecting delinquent loan accounts, late-stage delinquency, skip-tracing, repossession coordination, voluntary surrenders, reinstatements, and lien sales notices preferred.
