Two Northern California credit unions plan $2 billion merger.

Job Description

Two Northern California credit unions plan $2 billion merger. Tyfone - 3.0 Portland, OR Job Details 6 hours ago Qualifications Senior level Full Job Description Sierra Central Credit Union and First U.S. Community Credit Union plan to merge, creating a Northern California credit union with more than $2 billion in assets and 114,000 members, pending regulatory approval and a vote by First U.S. members. Sierra Central, based in Yuba City, would be the surviving institution. Shonna Shearson, First U.S.'s current chief executive, would lead the combined credit union. Ron Sweeney, Sierra Central's CEO, plans to retire once the merger is approved and the two institutions become one. The proposed combination would bring together two credit unions with overlapping footprints across Northern California. Sierra Central has more than $1.5 billion in assets and about 86,000 members, while Sacramento-based First U.S. Community has $545 million in assets and more than 28,000 members. Together, the credit unions would have more than 300 employees working across 23 branches. The legal closing, known as LD1, is expected in the first half of 2027, assuming the required approvals are obtained. Operational integration would continue through 2027 and 2028. The institutions said layoffs are not anticipated, citing a commitment to retaining employees. "People are key to our success," Shearson said. For First U.S., the merger would give its members access to the larger combined organization while putting Shearson in charge of an institution more than twice the size of the credit union she currently leads.
