Job Description

Mat-Su Surgical is a growing General Surgery Practice in Palmer Alaska. We are seeking a skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team that is a reliable, motivated, highly organized individual that can multi-task, and work under pressure. We are willing to train the right person, but the best candidate must be detail oriented, have a positive attitude & be a team player. The successful candidate will be responsible for prior authorization, collecting & posting payments, timely and accurately submitted medical claims to insurance companies, as well as following up on unpaid claims. The Medical Billing Specialist will also work closely with staff members and patients to answer billing questions. It is essential to have the highest quality of character, and have a positive, professional attitude. We understand that empowering & inspiring our staff is how to retain the best people on our team! Ideal Attributes :
  • Medical Coding experience(CPC preferred but not required)
  • Medical Terminology
  • Experience with General Surgery and G.I.
  • Honesty, integrity, proactive problem solver, and a team player
Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
  • Communicate with staff, providers, patients, insurance companies, etc. in a professional manner
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and obtain all necessary prior authorizations
  • Scan, file, attach EOBS, chart notes, etc. into EMR
  • Submit insurance claims and process payments to and from various insurance companies either electronically or by paper
  • Resolve insurance denials and discrepancies in collaboration with the billing team and providers
  • Perform claim status checks
  • Collect patient payments and post insurance payments
  • Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers
  • Process and apply refunds to insurance companies
  • Consult with Self-Pay patients and provide Good Faith Estimates
  • Assist in resolving patient billing complaints
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
1+ year of outpatient or other medical related experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Able to work independently and as a team player to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Excellent character, patience, kindness, dependability, and loyalty
  • Contribute to large work volume with high level of accuracy and quality
  • Demonstrate professional pleasant demeanor and a service oriented mindset
  • Proactive problem-solving skills
  • Criminal background check clearance/fingerprint clearance
  • Medical Coding experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding systems (Certification in
CPC, CCS
preferred)
  • Familiarity with billing software and electronic health records systems

Education :
High School Diploma or equivalent Some college, with emphasis on Medical Coding, Medical Terminology and Basic Human Anatomy preferred. Certified CPC and/or CPMA (AAPC or AHIMA) preferred.
