DOCUMENT CLERK

(Temporary Session Hire) Carson City, Nevada Salary up to $87,570 (employee/employer paid retirement plan) The Technical Services Unit (TSU) of the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) is seeking a diverse pool of qualified applicants for the position of Document Clerk within the Legal Division. The LCB is a nonpartisan, legislative service agency that provides professional, technical and administrative support to the Nevada Legislature, which convenes biennially in odd-numbered years for 120-day sessions and for rare special sessions during the interim periods. The TSU provides technical support to the Legal Division, which prepares and drafts legislation and legal opinions, provides legal counsel to legislative committees during the legislative session and interim, works with Executive Branch agencies to prepare and review administrative regulations, represents the Legislature and legislators in court and other proceedings and provides other assistance to legislators upon request. This is a temporary, full-time position located in Carson City, Nevada. This position has a maximum duration of 15 months, but may end sooner depending on the needs of the LCB and the Legislature. Following the legislative session, there may be an opportunity for this position to transition into a permanent role.

Position Description:

Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Technical Services, the Document Clerk will assemble and deliver legislative documents and other materials throughout the Nevada State Capitol Complex and will file, scan and maintain various documents and perform other tasks as needed. Responsibilities of the Document Clerk may include, without limitation: Operating office equipment, including, without limitation, computers, scanners, applicable software, printers, copiers, electric staplers, a hydraulic drill press and binders; Performing routine maintenance and trouble-shooting on copiers and scanners; Maintaining accurate and confidential legislative and legal files and communications; Preparing and filing documents with the Legislature, the Secretary of State and the courts, ensuring strict compliance with deadlines; Learning and using proprietary software; Providing technical and logistical support to the Legal Division; Shredding confidential documents; Stocking office supplies; Assisting in proofreading documents; Handling routine office tasks, as needed; Upholding strict confidentiality standards and adhering to principles of discretion; Providing effective backup and support to fellow team members within the TSU; and Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Document Clerk will be selected with special preference given to the candidate's training, experience and aptitude in the field of office support.

A qualified applicant must have:

(1) a high school diploma/GED; (2) at least 2 years of experience in a professional office setting. College level courses are preferred.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Professionalism and courtesy; Knowledge and experience with word processing; Familiarity with Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat; Superior attention to detail with strong grammar and spelling skills; Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively multitask; The ability to lift and move medium to large items weighing up to 40 pounds, without assistance, employing proper safety techniques; Reliability, punctuality, self-motivation and good judgment; The flexibility to accept and adapt to changes in the work environment; The ability to work independently and productively for extended periods; The capability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work efficiently under stressful conditions; and A commitment to maintaining confidentiality of documents and communications.

Salary:

The annual salary for this position is based upon a Grade 33, which has a salary range of $59,257 to $87,570 under the employee/employer paid retirement option. An employer-paid contribution plan is also available with a reduced salary in lieu of an employee contribution. Actual starting salary will be based on experience.

Working Conditions:

The work is performed in a typical office environment. Overtime may be required during legislative sessions and certain other periods as necessary to meet the demands of the Legislature. When overtime is worked, the Document Clerk may earn compensatory time that may be taken at a later date or be paid for overtime, consistent with the LCB Rules and Policies and subject to budgetary limits.
