Full Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Biller to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing insurance claims, verifying patient insurance information, and ensuring timely and accurate billing processes in an ophthalmology practice. The ideal candidate will have experience working with ophthalmic insurance claims, coding, and working directly with insurance providers.
Key Responsibilities:
Insurance Verification :
Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits for ophthalmic services.
Billing & Coding :
Accurately code and submit insurance claims for a variety of ophthalmic procedures using ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and other appropriate codes.
Claims Management :
Review and follow up on unpaid or denied claims, working with insurance companies to resolve issues and ensure timely payment.
Patient Billing :
Process patient billing, including co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
Customer Service :
Communicate effectively with patients and insurance providers to answer questions related to billing or insurance coverage.
Compliance :
Ensure all billing practices comply with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and other insurance industry standards.
Reporting :
Prepare billing reports for management to track claims status and revenue cycle performance.
Collaborative Work :
Work closely with the front office and clinical teams to ensure accurate and efficient billing processes.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Billing, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing or in a similar healthcare billing role. Strong knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9 and CPT coding for ophthalmic procedures. Familiarity with ophthalmic-specific insurance carriers and procedures. Ability to handle insurance rejections and appeals efficiently. Proficient in using EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Nextech, or similar software). Knowledge of HIPAA compliance regulations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, CCA, or similar). Experience with Medicare , Medicaid , and other insurance plans commonly used in ophthalmology. Previous experience in ophthalmology-specific billing software .
