Job Summary :

Reviewing medical records, verifying patient information and accurately inputting billing codes for services rendered into our practice management system, ensuring proper charges are submitted for patient accounts. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

(Additional duties may be assigned)

Demonstrates the ability to accurately determine CPT and ICD-10 codes for daily charges or medical records review before and charge review.
Reconciles charge encounter for the day.
Performs entry and attachment of insurance authorization numbers required for submission.
Answers calls from other office staff regarding coding.
Provides supporting documentation to insurance carriers as needed for maximum reimbursement as required.
Attend continuing education opportunities when offered.
Actively participates in Coder Audits.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

HS diploma or GED required
Two (2) years of medical billing experience
Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes
Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

Ability to operate a computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, and postage meter.

Computer Software:

Nextech and MDI practice management system and Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel and Word.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Computer proficiency includes word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
Good communication skills including verbal and written communications.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Problem solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization structure.
Some analytical ability to gather and summarize data, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work.
Must be detail-oriented and well organized.
Ability to maintain accurate records and data files.
Follows compliance guidelines as it applies to government rules and regulations.
Demonstrates professional appearance, manners and decorum.
Maintain a positive relationship with patients, physicians and other staff.

Is conscientious of other people's feelings and rights. Is always polite.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, crouch, bend or kneel, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
Ability to lift up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.
Close mental and visual attention required to perform a wide variety of tasks primarily with operating a multi-line telephone, using a computer and filing/sorting.

Work is performed in a typical office environment.
