As a Hospital Self-Pay Biller/Collector, you'll play an essential role in managing patient balances with accuracy, professionalism, and compassion. Your work helps patients understand their financial responsibilities and supports the hospital's mission to provide exceptional care to our community.
In This Role, You Will:
Review patient accounts to identify balances not covered by insurance and ensure accurate, timely billing. Generate and upload daily statement files to notify patients of outstanding balances. Collaborate with third-party vendors to manage early-out collections and monitor communication efforts. Handle bad debt workflows, ensuring accurate placements and responding to agency requests. Process patient payments, set up payment plans, and assist with billing-related questions. Make outbound calls and respond to incoming inquiries with professionalism and empathy. Work closely with Financial Counselors, Customer Service, and Revenue Cycle teams to resolve account issues. Maintain accurate records of all account actions, ensuring HIPAA compliance. Support reporting, audits, and process improvements to enhance cash flow and reduce accounts receivable days.
What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 1 year of experience in hospital or clinic billing, preferably in a self-pay or customer service role. Knowledge of medical billing procedures, EOBs, and patient responsibility processes (preferred). Proficiency in medical billing software, EHR systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Customer service mindset with the ability to handle sensitive concerns professionally. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
