The work involves administering and coordinating the various non-judicial activities with the proceeding of the Town and Village Justice Court. The Clerk Typist provides clerical and administrative support to the operations of the West Seneca Town Court in West Seneca. This position involves typing, data entry, recordkeeping, and assisting court personnel, attorneys, and members of the public. The Clerk Typist helps ensure the accurate processing of court documents and maintains organized records in accordance with policies of the New York State Unified Court System.
Responsibilities :
Responds to inquiries from other courts, government agencies, and attorneys concerning court procedures; Prepares and annotates court calendar and schedules cases; Composes letters and responses to written inquiries for signature of judge; Records receipt of fees; Reconciles expenditures and parking tickets, delivered by mail or in person; Classifies documents to be filled in accordance with the guidelines of an established filing system; Acts in an advisory capacity for citizens on small claims, civil matters and most other areas in relation to court procedures; Prepares papers relative to civil matters and issues same for proper service.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma including or supplemented by a course in typing. Office clerical experience, including typing, may be substituted for the high school requirement on a year for year basis. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
Preferred Experience:
Knowledge of court procedures and practices and relevant statues, rules and regulations as prescribed the Uniform Justice Court Act; Office of Court Administration or other regulatory agencies; A high degree of familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures and practices; Resourcefulness; Initiative and tact of a high degree in dealing with attorneys, law enforcement officer, public and private institutions and the public in general; Good knowledge of general office work including filing. record keeping and typing.
