BUILDING SPECIALIST I

Job Description

OVERVIEW
This position provides administrative support for the Building Department and serves as the focal point of communication for customers and employees. Regular schedule is Monday - Thursday, 7:30 - 5:00, 36 hours/week, full-time with benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides information and customer assistance to inquiries via phone or walk-in, including directing people to the appropriate department. Generate reports for the Building Department, Road and Bridge, and Community Development Services. Reviews applications, Processes invoices and fees for, and issues permits. Balances deposits. Receives calls/complaints and documents for assignment to appropriate staff for response. Performs routine clerical work in support of the department(s). Composes routine correspondence proofreading for accuracy and completeness. Maintains files following established methods and procedures. Sorts and distributes incoming mail, processes outgoing mail. Occasional errands as needed. Additional duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, and listening. Must be self-motivated and proactive in problem-solving. Ability to multitask and be flexible with changing work assignments. Ability to perform routine computer functions and learn new applications as necessary. Ability to complete work accurately and timely with attention to detail. Must be a team player and support a teamwork environment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic computer skills (Word/Excel). Ability to operate standard office equipment. Minimum two years of customer service experience. Able to pass a criminal background check.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain a Permit Technician Certification within 9 months after the hire date. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record. Must be able to pass a criminal background check. This is a safety-sensitive position that is subject to random drug testing.
